International Racing: Gulfstream Park – Friday 27 March 2020 (Turf/Dirt)

An exciting eleven-race programme can be looked forward to on Friday. Luis Saez, Egdard Zayas and Joel Rosario may be the jockeys to follow on the day as they have some very lively chances.

The best bet on the card comes in Race 2 in the form of MIZ CHAPLIN. She won her last start well and looks to be above average. If fit and well, she should take a power of beating.

Best Bet: MIZ CHAPLIN (Race 2)

Race 1
COUNTERSTRIKE finished just a short head behind the winner when making his debut over a mile on this course. He was brushed in the closing stages but showed good guts and determination all the way to the line. He tries the extra furlong today and with Julien Leparoux retaining the ride, the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. The biggest danger could come from the Todd Pletcher trained, RHYTHM SECTION. He too produced a cracking debut on this course over a mile. He didn’t have much luck in running that day but still managed to finish a creditable 2nd. Luis Saez keeps the ride and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 2
MIZ CHAPLIN is the best bet on today’s card. She was an impressive winner of her last start over 1100m on a dirt surface. She raced up with the pace and quickened well to put six lengths between herself and the second-placed runner. She does return from a break today, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Rattlesnake Bridge looks to have some class about her and she may be hard to beat in this type of field. DON’T GET KHOZY showed good signs of returning to best form in her last start over this course and distance. She raced wide around the turn, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. She has finished runner-up twice from three outings over this trip and should be involved in the finish once again.

Race 3
GRAN CHAMPAGNE produced a promising debut effort over this course and distance. He raced on the inside rail and the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be hard to beat. KHATTAF is an unraced Khozan from the Ralph Nicks stable with Edgard Zayas doing duty. He has produced four decent workouts on this course since the beginning of February. Any betting support for him or any of the other unraced entrants should be respected. YANKEE EMPIRE has produced three fair efforts thus far. He has his first run on this course and if suited to the track, he should be involved at the business end of the race.

Race 4
This is an open contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to FIRST WAVE from the George Arnold yard with Tyler Gaffalione doing duty. She was very disappointing in her last start at Keeneland on the dirt track. She was quickly given a break after that race which may have been what she was looking for. She is having her first run on this course, but if reproducing her earlier form when finishing runner-up in her first two starts, she should be the one they all have to beat. GLORIOUSLY has produced two moderate efforts thus far. Both of those runs were on the dirt surface and she tries the turf for the first time. She too returns from a lengthy absence and if fit and well, in this type of field, she may be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 5
MIA’S BOBTAIL is the value bet on today’s card. She is much better than her last start suggests and she takes a slight drop-in class today. She returns to Gulfstream Park where she has won once from four starts and if finding her best form, she may be the one to cause the upset. QUEEN KANTHAROS showed good signs of a form return in her last start over this course and distance. She moved up extremely well that day, but just lacked extra in the late stages of the race. If repeating that run in this type of field, she should pose a big threat to the top selection. LOOKING FOR MORE followed up her maiden victory with a solid effort over a mile on this course. The drop to the six furlongs is a slight concern, but if continuing her good run of form, she should be involved in the shake-up.

Race 6
ROCHAMBEAU’S last three runs have been good. He raced from a handy position in his last start over nine furlongs, but just did not quite go on with the effort. He drops back to the mile today and if repeating his penultimate run over this trip when finishing just a neck behind the winner, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure. Edgard Zayas retains the ride which is encouraging as he will know the son of Noble Mission a lot better. FLAME ZAPPER was just touched off in his last start over this course and distance under today’s pilot, Tyler Gaffalione. He made his run up the inside rail that day, but it was just a little too late. From barrier position nine, Gaffalione is likely to adopt the same tactics and the pair should be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the wire.

Race 7
CHASE RUNNER is a son of Big Brown and he is in very good form. Despite racing four wide in his last start over seven furlongs on this course, he stayed on very well at the business end of the race. The step up to the mile is no concern as he has won twice from four starts over the trip. Edgard Zayas who has been aboard him in his last two starts retains the ride and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. LAPOCHKA got back to winning ways in his last start over this course and distance. He raced three wide that day, but the manner in which he drew off at the finish was encouraging. His record on this surface is decent with four wins and three second-place finishes from seven attempts. From pole position, he should pose a big threat to the top selection.

Race 8
FRENCHMAN STREET has very good consistent formlines to his name. He just won his last start over this distance under a driving ride. He has a good record on the turf with two wins, two seconds and three third-place finishes from twelve outings. The son of Malibu Moon should be tough to beat from his good draw of three. CAMP RANDALL is a lightly raced son of Shackleford from the Stanley Hough stable. He was an impressive winner of his maiden in his penultimate start and followed that up with another victory over this course and distance. Luis Saez who was aboard him in his first two starts steps back into the saddle today and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 9
MONEY MOVES was an impressive winner on debut on this course over the six-furlong trip. He was ridden along four-wide around the turn and got up in the closing stages of the race. He steps up to the mile today and the manner in which he finished off his race on debut, suggests that this should be right up his alley. Jockey Luis Saez keeps the ride aboard the son of Candy Ridge and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure once again. OURNATIONONPARADE’S first run for new trainer Katherine Ritvo was good. He raced three wide that day, but finished his race off well by being denied victory by just half a length. He too tries the mile for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 10
ZARINA has good consistent formlines to her name. She is having her first run this year, but her record on the turf is very good with three wins, a second and a third-place finish from eight outings. She tries the nine furlongs for the first time and if not in need of the run, she should get her 2020 season off on a winning note. BACCHANALIA has won her last two starts well. Despite turning for home five wide last time, she came through late and won by 0.5 lengths at the wire. She won her only attempt over the distance, and with Joel Rosario doing duty today, the hat-trick is very much on the cards.

Race 11
GUFO came from some way back when winning his maiden race on this course in December. He comes off a short break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Declaration Of War takes on stronger this afternoon, but he is lightly raced and looks to have a lot of scope about him. Joel Rosario rides from a handy barrier position and the pair should be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages. UNCONQUERED LEA was ultra-impressive when winning his maiden race over a mile on this course. He set the pace that day and put five lengths between himself and the second-placed horse. He does take a step up in class today, but he certainly looks to have some ability and should pose a big threat to the top selection.
