International Racing: Rosehill Gardens – Wednesday 01 April 2020

Rosehill Gardens plays host to a very competitive eight-race programme and there is a lot of value on offer. The best bet on the day comes in Race 1 in the form of GUNDY BRIDGE who finished runner-up on debut. With the natural improvement that is expected, he will be looking to go one better here.

Race 1
GUNDY BRIDGE produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1100m at Gosford. He moved up very well that day, but the winner put in a strong late burst to grab him late. The son of I Am Invincible would have come on from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better here. ROCK MY WAND is a filly taking on the males. She has placed in her last three outings which includes a good second-place finish at Kensington over seven furlongs in her last start. She produced the fastest 400m to finish of the day over the distance. Jason Collett does duty this afternoon and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 2
BLUEANT is the value bet on today’s card. He produced a promising debut effort despite racing four-wide around the turn. The manner in which he finished off the race was encouraging. He would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement over the extra furlong. He does have a wide barrier to contend with, but Jason Collett is likely to switch him off early and set him a light up the straight. DUTY showed good improvement in his last start over six furlongs at Kembla Grange. He was in front turning form home, gave a nice kick at the 350m mark, but was outrun late. If confirming his recent improvement, he should pose the biggest threat to the top selection.

Race 3
ALL TIME LEGEND posted a decent post maiden effort over this type of distance last time. He has won an open trial since that effort and comes into the race at peak fitness. Kerrin McEvoy knows the son of Zoustar well and there may be a lot more to come from this gelding. GONE BYE needed his last start over seven furlongs after returning from an 11-week break. He has won two out of his four starts to date, one of them being in this class. Robbie Dolan gets on well with the son of Al Maher and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 4
SELES has finished third in her last three runs. She set the pace in her last start and fought gamely despite the running room down the inside fence becoming a bit tight. James McDonald rides from a mid-field draw and the pair are likely to push forward and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. ICEBATH just missed in her last start at long odds. She won her two starts prior to that effort. She does face a tough task at the weights in this contest, but she is lightly raced and there looks to be more to come from the daughter of Sacred Falls.

Race 5
This is a competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to YONKERS from the Chris Waller stable. He was a narrowly beaten favourite in his last start over 1900m on this course. He has won three of his five starts this season and with top jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle, he may be the one to side with here. WELSH LEGEND is a filly taking on the boys. She caught the eye when running on strongly from a wide barrier position in her last start. She is drawn in pole position today and with Brenton Avdulla retaining the mount, she should be right there to throw out a challenge.

Race 6
MIRRA VISION was narrowly beaten in her last start after winning her first three career outings. She was running on well at the finish last time, but it was a little too late. She will enjoy the extra 100m on offer this afternoon and with regular pilot Tommy Berry in the saddle, he will be looking to make amends. SEGALAS just missed in her second run after a rest at Warwick Farm last time. However, that could be put down to Hugh Bowman dropping his right-side rein in the last 100m of the race. Nash Rawiller does duty on her peak run today and the pair should pose a big threat to the top selection.

Race 7
CARDIFF was considered good enough to contest a Group 1 event last time. He did not shape that day, but his penultimate effort in listed company was good. He returns to Handicap’s this afternoon and may be a little too strong for the rest of the field. WITHERSPOON has some good recent form to her name. She has a good record over this distance with two second-place and two third-place finishes from six starts. She jumps from pole position today and should the top selection fluff his lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 8
JETSKI is one of the better bets on today’s card. He won his last start well after returning from a 17-week lay-off. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has a good record of a win and a second-place finish when having his second run after a rest. Kerrin McEvoy rides and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. MILITARY MAGIC is unbeaten from three career outings, all of which have been over today’s distance. She does return from a well-deserved break and if not in need of the run, she has a good chance of keeping her unbeaten record intact.
