International Racing: Mornington – Tuesday 31 March 2020

A ten-race programme from Will Rogers Downs kicks off the week. TIAGO’S SONG who races in the first race is the best bet on the card.

Other International Racing tips for Monday and Tuesday:
Mornington (Winning Form)
Mackay (Winning Form)
Grafton (Winning Form)

She is the form horse in the race and should shed her maiden tag today. The jockey for the day is Ty Kennedy. He is riding well at the moment and with a good book of rides, he must be the one to follow.

Best Bet: TIAGO’S SONG (Race 1)

Race 1
TIAGO’S SONG has good recent formlines to her credit. She raced from a handy position in her last start, but just lacked a strong kick in the closing stages of the race. She does not meet the strongest line-up this afternoon and should shed her maiden tag at the tenth time of asking. TELL ME BOO BOO is much better than her recent form suggests. Her run on 25 November catches the eye when she finished third, just two lengths behind the winner. She has placed twice over this distance and if producing her best form, she should pose a threat to the top selection.

Race 2
SEAHAWK WAVE’S last effort can be ignored as he faltered at a crucial stage in the race. His record on the dirt surface is good with two wins, a second and three third-place finishes from ten outings. Ty Kennedy steps into the saddle and on best form shown, he should be the one they all have to beat. PATRIOT didn’t have much luck when trying the turn in his last start. He raced wide and understandably lacked a finish up the straight. He showed good pace in his penultimate start when winning over 1100m on this surface. If repeating that effort in this line-up, he should be right up there in the run down to the wire.

Race 3
JIMMY WINNE produced a promising debut effort over this distance in November last year. He would have gained from the experience and would have strengthened up nicely during the time off. He has had a few nice breeze-ups since that race and if fit and well, he should be the one to side with here. PAST VISIONS needed his comeback run badly. He raced very wide that day and stopped. He produced a promising debut effort when finishing runner-up over this distance. He is having his second run after a rest today and should strip a much fitter horse. Should the top rating fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 4
GAMBLER was an easy maiden winner in his first start for his new trainer. He set the pace that day and won with a ton in hand. He does take on stronger opposition today, but the manner in which he won last time suggests that there is definitely more to come from the son of Quality Road. Paulina Ramirez does duty and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. JAZZ MUSIC showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start. He has won once and finished second three times from thirteen outings over this distance. Ty Kennedy does duty aboard the son of Maclean’s Music and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 5
DREAM NURSE is not the most consistent sort, but she placed in her only attempt on this course under today’s rider. She likes to race up with the pace in her races and if producing her best form, she may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. PORSUMSUGARONME has produced two fair efforts thus far. She returns from a lengthy absence but has had a few decent breeze-ups leading into this race. Her regular pilot Garrett Steinburg does duty and if she is not in need of the run, she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 6
SPECTACTICAL is the value bet on today’s card. He showed good signs of a form return in his last start, but found one too good on the day. He loves racing over this distance with a record of one win, three seconds and a third-place finish from as many outings. Jason Eads steps aboard the son of Tactical Cat once again and the pair could find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. QUICKSILVER was his own worst enemy last time as he was slow into stride. He is much better than that effort and if he can reproduce his effort on 11 October last year when winning by three lengths, he should pose the biggest threat to the top choice.

Race 7
CHAMPAGNE’S ON ICE is much better than his last run suggests. He drops back to the six furlongs this afternoon which may suit him well. He has produced some good form in his career thus far and with Ty Kennedy in the saddle, he should be the one they all have to beat in this line-up. TIGER TREATS is an unraced son of State City from the Scott Young stable. His time in his last two breeze-ups has improved nicely and he doesn’t have to be one of the stable superstars to feature in this type of field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 8
NACOGDOCHES showed good improvement in his first start for his new conditioner. He raced up with the pace that day and tried hard all the way to the line. His record over today’s distance is good with two wins and three second-place finishes from seven attempts. He is having his first run on this course and if suited to the style of the track, he may be the one they all have to beat. HANDSOME TRAVELER has good recent form to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner in his last start but faltered at a crucial stage in the race. Floyd Wethey Jnr knows this son of Stroll well and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 9
BRIGHT BLING has good consistent formlines to her name. She cost herself winning last time as she hung in the closing stages of the race. She is yet to be unplaced over this distance, with a win, a second and a third-place finish from as many outings. She also runs well on this course and from barrier position two, she looks to be the one to side with here. OKIE QUEEN is lightly raced and was an impressive winner of her last start over a mile. The drop back to six furlongs should not pose much of an issue as she won over this trip on debut. She does have to overcome the widest barrier position today, but she likes to set the pace in her races and may get across without using up too much energy.

Race 10
FAR OUT KAILEE has not been in the best of form recently, but the fact that Leandro Goncalves steps back in the saddle is very encouraging. In the last four times that Goncalves has partnered this son of Summer Bird, the pair have won three times and finished fourth on the other occasion. From his mid-field barrier position, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. BURGAMEISTER has been racing over distances short of his best in his last two starts. His best form has been on this dirt surface with three wins, four seconds and a third-place finish from 21 outings. On best form shown, he looks to be the one that will throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
