PRO 14: Dragons v Treviso Preview

The sole PRO14 fixture for the weekend will see the Dragons square off with Benetton Treviso on Saturday the 7th of March.

The only PRO14 match of the week will see Welsh club the Newport Gwent Dragons take on Italian club Benetton Treviso. It's somewhat surprising that this match is actually going ahead considering Ireland versus Italy 6 Nations game has been called off due to the Corona Virus.

The Italians may actually benefit from that international match being called off as they will have a number of their Italian internationals available while the Dragons will be without their Welsh stars who take on England this weekend.

Dragons

After a slow old start to the season, the Dragons are finally starting to find something resembling decent for with the Welsh side winning three of their last five PRO14 fixtures. This is a decent turn around considering they only managed to win two of the seven fixtures that they played in 2019.

One of the Dragons aforementioned victories came last weekend where they beat local rivals, the Scarlets 22-20 in an extremely hard-fought derby.

The Dragons have really struggled against Treviso in the recent past losing the last four games played between the sides. When the duo met last, the Dragons were absolutely hammered with Treviso running out 57-7 victors in Italy.

Treviso

Treviso have been on a poor run of form since the turn of the year only registering two victories from the five games they have played. That have barely played any PRO14 rugby this term, and the two games they have played have ended in defeats to Glasgow and the Cardiff Blues.

Unlike the Dragons, Treviso had last weekend off with their home fixture against Ulster being called off due to Corona Virus fears.

Verdict: Treviso
I fancy the visitors to spring a massive surprise here. They have their internationals and a solid recent record over the hosts.
