International Racing: Thursday 03 April 2020 – Cranbourne

A small, but competitive eight-race programme is scheduled for Cranbourne on Friday. The best bet comes in Race 2 in the form of KURNELL who has finished second in his last three starts. He meets the right field on Friday and may be hard to beat.

Race 1
FIGHTING JACK was running on strongly when runner-up on debut over this distance at Terang. He would have come on with the run under his belt and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better here. JOCAT is an unraced daughter of Shamoline Warrior. She finished 3rd in her barrier trial coming into this race and if not too green tonight, she should be right there. The betting will be the best guide with regards to her chances. MAGNUS A GO GO produced a promising debut effort over this course and distance. He was making steady progress that day and with the natural progression that is expected, he should be involved in the fight out to the finish line. POTENTIA is an unraced son of Brazen Beau. He has had five good barrier trials leading into this race and any betting support for him must be taken seriously.

Race 2
KURNELL is the best bet on tonight’s card. He has finished runner-up in his last three starts over 1100m. He finished third twice in both his efforts over tonight’s distance and from pole position, he should get rewarded for his consistency. SISTINE AVENUE has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He was running on well at the finish over this distance in his last start and if repeating that effort, he should pose a threat to the top selection. SHOWBAG’S last two starts over 1100m have been fair. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time tonight and if these have the desired effect, he should be right there in the run down to the wire. STEPHEN’S GREEN has been disappointing in his last two starts after finishing just a length off the winner on debut. If finding the form of that race, he could be the one to cause the upset.

Race 3
EXACT REPLICA was a tad disappointing in her last start after producing two good runs. She does make her course debut tonight and if suited to the track, she should be tough to beat from pole position. BONNE GEISHA produced a fair debut over six furlongs. She has been rested 19 weeks since that race, during which time she would have strengthened up. If not in need of this outing, she should have plenty of improvement to come. EVIE GIRL didn’t enjoy racing in the City last time. She finished runner-up in her penultimate start and if repeating that run, she should be right there in the run down to the wire. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and these should help her keep her mind on the task at hand. ADDICTIONS has just had the two runs to date. She was returning from a lengthy 49-week absence last time. She’ll strip much fitter this evening and should have plenty of improvement to come.

Race 4
VISION RED produced a promising debut effort over this distance at Sale. He raced from a handy position that day, took over the lead at the 150m mark and only went down late. He would have come on with the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better today. OSTARA is a filly taking on males. She has finished third three times from four starts and merits healthy respect. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and it is encouraging that Jye McNeil retains the ride. BILLIE DE LUNE produced a fair debut when finishing just over two lengths behind the winner. She would have gained from the experience and should make natural improvement. John Allen keeps the ride. PROMPT REPLY has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He should race up with the speed and can run into the minor money in this field.

Race 5
EARTHLING is the value bet on today’s card. He was not disgraced when racing in the Dederang Cup last time. He has won three times and finished second twice from eleven outings this season and could be the one to cause the upset in this race. VIONETTA followed up her maiden victory with a decent effort over seven furlongs at Ballarat. Michael Walker knows the daughter of Not A Single Doubt well and the pair merit healthy respect. KUSARI needed his last start badly after returning from a 16-week break. He won his maiden race before given a well-deserved rest and looks to have plenty of scope about him. He should strip a much fitter horse today and will go close to winning. He does get the blinkers fitted for the first time and these should help him keep his mind on the job. SURETOSHINE is returning from a 39-week break today. She won her only attempt on this course and if fit and well, she should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 6
SOUTHERN NATIVE was an impressive winner of his maiden after two good 2nd place finishes. He raced handy last time and cruised clear for the victory. He does take a step up in class this evening, but the manner in which he won last time suggests that there is more to come from the son of Adelaide. John Allen does duty and the pair could find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. ROLLING MOSS was a tad disappointing in his last start just two days ago. He won his penultimate effort over six furlongs well and if repeating that run, he should go close. SEALED does not have the most consistent form, but she runs well on this course with a win and a second-place finish from as many outings. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be right there in the firing line. MANHATTAN STING just won his maiden at the third time of asking. He does take on stronger today, but he is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope.

Race 7
CONVERGING is in very good form recently. She was beaten by just 0.1 lengths in her last start over a mile. She raced wide that day, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. John Allen knows her very well and the pair may be hard to beat tonight. THINK WE’RE DUE led throughout for a dominant win over this type of distance at Mooney Valley last time. He makes his course debut this evening and if suited to the track, he could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. MONAAFASAH needed her comeback run badly last time. She should strip much fitter for tonight’s race and with Jye McNeil doing duty, she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. PELONOMENA has fair recent form to her credit. She has won twice from three starts over tonight’s distance and cannot be ignored.

Race 8
This is an open event to close off tonight’s programme and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is SEATONIC from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace yard. She showed some signs of a form return in her last start over this distance and has a good record over this trip with four wins and two second place finishes from ten attempts. She gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. PARIANO’S last start over this distance was good. If confirming that recent improvement, she should pose a big threat to the top selection. BLONDE DISPOSITION returns from a lengthy 36-week break. She races well fresh with a record of a win and two third-place finishes from as many starts. MOI CHOUX is unbeaten in two career starts. She faces her toughest test to date, but she looks to have some class about her and can notch up the hat-trick.
