International Racing: Monday 05 April 2020 – Ballarat

10 races for punters to look forward to this Monday 6th April and despite the small fields, the racing looks competitive. KARATIE HOTTIE is the best bet on the card, when she lines up in the 7th race over the mile. After two good comeback runs, she looks ready to win now. DO YOU BILEVE is in a very competitive event in the 5th race. Cases can be made for a few of the opposition, but with decent recent form to her name, she’ll be worth following in this company.

Best Bet: KARATE HOTTIE (Race 7)
Value Bet: DO YOU BILEVE (Race 5)

Race 1 – 20:15 - 1200m
LOVE AND LEMONS has given two decent efforts in her last two starts and the daughter of Lemon Drop Kid will be cherry ripe for this with this being her peak run after an almost 10-month absence. Both of her comeback runs have been over 5-furlongs and she is going to relish the step up in trip here. She is due another and will be a major contender in this small field. SHALLOW RIVER has just the 5 runs under her belt. She hasn’t run since mid-December, but she runs well fresh and with plenty of scope for improvement she can make her presence felt.

Race 2 – 20:45 – 1100m
TWO THE PUNCH bids for his hat-trick of wins when he goes to post in the 2nd race. The 7-year old son of Top Hit has only won once over this trip from 8 attempts, but he has enough speed and should be a big runner. BLENDED LUTE followed up that useful win with a solid second last time out. Curtis Kimes rode him in that latest bid, and he retains the ride here. At a decent price, he should give another good account of himself.

Race 3 – 21:15 – 1000m
RACE THE MOON showed plenty of speed and went close to winning his latest effort, when dropping in trip. That was his first run since late November last year and with two 2nds from 3 attempts at this course, he will be tough to beat here. MAVERICK BROWN was caught wide in his comeback run last time out but rallied gamely in the final two furlongs for a respectable 3rd. He will strip fitter here and jockey Gustavo Herrera knows him well. With a bit more luck in running, he’ll be involved in the finish.

Race 4 – 21:45 – 1100m
LONG RIDE HOME won with a driving finish last time out, at just the 3rd time of asking. That was a comeback run and despite the rise in class, she will have plenty of scope for further improvement. She has the gate speed to overcome a tricky barrier and if finding a prominent early position, she will be tough to collar late. BLING SPRINGSTEEN has her peak run back after a four-and-a-half-month absence from the course. She showed good improvement in her latest effort, when boxing on well for 2nd and with further progression she will be a big contender at the business end.

Race 5 – 22:15 – 1600m
DO YOU BILEVE clearly enjoyed the step up in trip when having her second run after a 3-months rest, last time out. Obed Sanchez retains the ride and with plenty of scope for more progression, she has a useful chance with another handy galloping weight to shoulder. SHEZA ROCKSTAR has only had the 6 runs so far and she is still learning with each outing. She tends to do it the hard way, but if settling a little better here, she will be a major threat to the leading contenders. A wide-open race, respect must be given to the likes of another up and coming sort in the form of SLIDAN who steps up to this trip for the first time. WILD PROSPECT will also have a useful chance, having finished right in front of the top selection last time out.

Race 6 – 22:45 – 1100m
VERONICA’S DREAM won her last start, back in August last year. That was only her 9th outing when notching up her 3rd career victory. She seems to race well fresh and with a useful record over this trip, she deserves some respect. EMILY’S PEGASUS also won her latest effort, when making good headway in the closing stages. A versatile daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus, she seems to be in solid form and must be included as a major factor here. WHEW has her peak run after a rest and seems to be on the right trajectory. She has won over this trip in recent times and could be worth including in wider perms.

Race 7 – 23:15 – 1600m
KARATE HOTTIE has just missed in both of her comeback runs and she will be looking to resume her ultra-consistent form with another win here. She is yet to try the mile, but the daughter of Bold Warrior is certainly bred for it and she will be looking to use her solid turn of foot off the back of a much more sedate gallop than she is used to. The best bet on the card, she looks tough to knock here. AURA is only having her 4th career start on the back of some good form shown so far. She has already won and placed over this trip in her last two starts and with further improvement expected, she looks a natural inclusion.

Race 8 – 23:45 – 1100m
COLLEGE QUEEN has a solid record over this trip, having never finished outside of the top 3 in her 5 attempts. Having picked up the two wins along the way, she certainly knows how to navigate the 1100m. She gave a solid account of herself last time out when finishing 3rd, despite being caught 8-wide in the final corner. With more luck in running this time, she will be a big contender. BATTLE CHIC clearly needed her last start, when outrun in the closing stages. That was on the back of some much more respectable form and if overcoming the wide barrier, she deserves to be respected.

Race 9 – 00:15 – 1200m
LADY ORCHID has only been beaten once in her 5 career outings so far and she looks destined for bigger and better. The daughter of Oratory has plenty of speed and after running on late to win over a mile last time, she also has very good sprint form to her name so the drop in trip should not be an issue. With further progression expected, she looks a major factor her. WHOLEHEARTED hasn’t missed the first 3 places in her last 9 starts, picking up 2 wins along the way. She loves this trip and her form in this class is solid. From a plum draw she must be included in all perms.

Race 10 – 00:45 – 1200m
LOS SUENOS gave a very good of herself last time out, when returning from a 9-month absence from the course. She would’ve come on nicely with that run and from an improved barrier, she will relish the slight step up in trip. Curtis Kimes retains the ride and if building on that latest outing, she will go close to winning this. SAVVY SPENDER will more than likely top the betting boards here, after that useful last run when she was caught late over the mile. She drops back in trip now and having gone close over the sprints before, she deserves plenty of respect and must be included.
