International Racing: Saturday 18 April 2020 – Royal Randwick

International Racing: Happy Valley – Wednesday 15 April 2020

An exciting nine-race programme is in store, including two Group 1 races and four Group 3 races. There are some open contests on the day with some nice value about one or two of the selections. RUBISAKI who features in Race 3 over seven furlongs is the best bet on the day. She is unbeaten in her last six starts and has a good chance of adding to that tally today.

Race 1
TORO TORO was given a 29-week break after producing a moderate debut. He is unbeaten in three runs since the lay-off. He is facing his toughest test to date, but he the manner in which he has won suggests there is more to come from the son of Time For War. He is making his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he should notch up his fourth career victory. HELLENISM is a filly taking on males, but she has won her last two starts well. She is returning from a short 12-week break this afternoon. She should not have any issues with regards to fitness as she had a decent barrier trial coming into this race. She won her only attempt on this course and will be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 2
MISS INVINCIBLE has very good consistent form to her name. She was given a well-deserved 24-week break after winning her last start at Rosehill Gardens. She should not have any issues with regards to fitness as she won both of her barrier trials coming into this race. Tim Clark rides the daughter of I Am Invincible on her return and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. SNITZ is a winner of his last two starts. He has a good record over this distance having won once, finished second twice and third on three occasions. He is returning from a 20-week break this afternoon and if fit and well, should pose a big threat to the top choice.

Race 3 (Mostyn Copper J H B Carr Stakes)
RUBISAKI is unbeaten in her last five starts. She was a winner of the P J Bell Stakes which is a Group 3 event over six furlongs on this course last time and she is unbeaten over this distance from three attempts. The daughter of Rubick meets the right field today and should notch up her eighth career victory. AKARI finished third, 1.5 lengths behind the top selection in her last start. As the pair meet on the same weight terms today, she may have to settle for the same result. Her record over this distance is good, with two wins from three starts. Tim Clark does duty aboard the daughter of Snitzel and the pair should be the leading contenders for the placings.

Race 4 (Cactus Imaging Frank Packer Plate)
QUICK THINKER was ultra-impressive when winning the Group 1 Australian Derby in his last start on this course. He took over the lead at the 350m mark that day and fought hard all the way to the winning post. The drop to ten furlongs is no concern for the son of So You Think as he has won over the distance in the past. Opie Bossom retains the ride and the pair should be too good for the rest of the field. ENTENTE followed up his maiden victory well, by winning a Group 3 event over a mile last time. He tries the ten furlongs for the first time, but if he manages to get an uncontested lead, he may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. Tim Clark knows him well and the pair cannot be ignored.

Race 5 (Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes)
HOLYFIELD is a three-time winner from just four starts. He was a Group 3 winner over seven furlongs at Rosehill Gardens in his last start. He raced from a handy position that day, took over the lead at the 550m mark and kept finding all the way to the winning post. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He does face his toughest test to date, but he looks to have class about him and may be up to the task at hand. KING’S LEGACY was an impressive winner of a Group 1 race over seven furlongs on this course last time. The manner in which he won that day suggests that he will not have any issues with the step up to the mile. Hugh Bowman keeps the ride and the pair should throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 6 (Japan Racing Association Plate)
YULONG PRINCE is the value bet on today’s card. He was somewhat disappointing in his last start as he moved up, but couldn’t go on with his effort. The run that catches the eye is when winning on Melbourne Cup day over nine furlongs, under today’s jockey, Nash Rawiller. He has ridden him twice for a win and a second-place finish and on best form shown, he should be the one they all have to beat. SHARED AMBITION is much better than his last run in the Doncaster Mile suggests. He won his only attempt over this course and distance in his penultimate start. If repeating that effort, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 7 (Schweppes All Aged Stakes)
BRANDENBURG ran an absolute cracker in the Doncaster Mile in his last start. He will enjoy the drop back to seven furlongs as he has won twice and finished second once from as many attempts. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time today and the headgear should keep his mind on the task at hand. It is encouraging that jockey Rachel King steps back into the saddle as she has won on him once and finished third once from as many starts. The pair could be the ones to cause the upset. SANTA ANA LANE should be the one to pose the biggest threat. He was running on well at the finish in the T J Smith Stakes last time. He has a good record over the seven furlongs having won twice and finished second once in five attempts. Tim Clark retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 8 (Tab Hall Mark Stakes)
TREKKING was a tad disappointing in the T J Smith Stakes in his last start. He was however returning from an 18-week break that day and may have been in need of the run. He has a very good record over this distance with two wins and a third-place finish from four starts. He drops back in class this afternoon and has a very good chance of getting back to winning ways. DEPRIVE is the stable companion of the top selection. He has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings and  is unbeaten in three efforts over this course and distance. He has had the perfect prep coming into this race and should be at peak fitness. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 9
MILITARY ZONE produced some decent form before given a much needed 21-week break. He should not have any issues with regards to fitness as he has had three decent barrier trials coming into this race. His record over today’s distance is good with a record of two wins and a second-place finish from as many starts. He is likely to be switched off at the back of the field early and made to do his best work out the straight. The son of Epaulette may be the one to side with here. PHAISTOS was given a well-deserved break after winning his last start over this course and distance. He has produced two good barrier trials coming into this race and should be at peak fitness. Kerrin McEvoy rides on his return and the pair cannot be ignored.
