International Racing: Sunday 19 April 2020 – Sha Tin

International Racing: Happy Valley – Wednesday 15 April 2020

Racing returns to Sha Tin for a ten-race programme on Sunday where racing is on both the turf and all-weather surfaces. There are one or two short-priced favourites on the card that look very tough to beat. The best bet on the day is FOODIE PRINCESS in Race 4. He has very good consistent form on the all-weather surface, Joao Moreira knows him well and the pair look tough to beat in that field. With regards to the Jockey’s Championship, after riding a treble on Wednesday at Happy Valley, Zac Purton is now one winner behind Moreira. The latter has a full book of rides whilst Purton has eight. All their mounts will need to be followed with a close eye. Geraldon

Race 1
LIVERBIRD STAR is the value bet on today’s card. He ran a very good race in his last start over this course and distance when finishing second. He stayed on well at the finish that day despite returning with a cut on his one leg. Jockey Antoine Hamelin has got off to a very good start in Hong Kong and can get this son of Magnus into the winner’s enclosure here. SEIZE THE SPIRIT got back to winning ways in his last start over this course and distance. He settled near the rear and finished his race off strongly. If repeating that effort today, he should be the one to pose the biggest threat to the top selection. JOY MASTER has moderate recent form to his name, but he does take a drop-in class this afternoon. The engagement of jockey Zac Purton is encouraging and the pair cannot be ignored. HURRICANE HUNTER has shown good signs of returning to best form in his last two starts, the latest over which was over this course and distance. Joao Moreira retains the ride from a good barrier position and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 2
FULL POWER got back to winning ways when winning his last start over a mile on this course. He raced from a handy position that day and held on where it matters most. He steps back up in distance this afternoon and gets the services of Zac Purton for the first time. The son of Frankel looks to be the one to side with here. GOOD DAYS showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start under Vagner Borges. He was taken back early and rallied well up the straight. The drop in distance is no concern as he has placed over the trip in the past. If confirming his recent improvement, he should pose a big threat to the top choice. DEFINING MOMENT won his last start over a mile well. He has got a wide draw to contend with, but Joao Moreira retains the ride and the pair will be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages. GALA NIGHT may not have seen out the ten furlongs of his last start. He set the pace, but tired in the closing stages. He has won twice from four starts over this distance and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 3
SUPER RED DRAGON has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He moved up very well in his last start over nine furlongs and was outrun late. He has finished second twice and third once from four attempts over this distance. The return to the all-weather surface is no concern as he has finished second twice and third once from five outings. Karis Teetan retains the ride and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure today. JADE FORTUNE should have finished closer in his last start over this course and distance. He was crowded at the 600m mark and hampered at the 500m mark. Zac Purton does duty once again and with a bit of luck in running, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. DAILY BEAUTY has moderate recent form to his name, but the son of All American has been crying out for today’s distance. He gets the services of capable Vincent Ho and the pair could be the ones to cause the upset. THIS ONE’S FOR YOU has decent recent form to his name. He has a good record over this course and distance with a win, two seconds and two third place finishes from seven starts. He must be included in all bets.

Race 4
FOODIE PRINCESS has very good consistent recent form. He runs well on this all-weather surface with a record of two wins, a second and two third place finishes from seven outings. Joao Moreira knows the son of Sepoy well and the pair should be very tough to beat. SUPERICH is slowly showing signs of returning to best form. He should have finished closer in his last start, but had to check at the 1300m mark and was blocked for running room at the 400m mark. He is likely to be taken back early from his wide barrier position and made to do his best work up the straight. PING HAI TREASURE stayed on well at the finish when runner-up in his last start over this course and distance. He has a good record on this surface having won twice and finishing second twice from five outings. Derek Leung rides and the pair cannot be ignored. CLEAR CHOICE has good recent form to his name. He has a decent record over this course and distance having won twice, finishing second once and third once from seven starts. In-form Antoine Hamelin rides and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 5
SUPER POWER MAN made the expected natural improvement to win his last start over this course and distance. He set the pace that day and kept going to hold all challengers at bay. Chad Schofield knows the son of Anacheeva well and the pair should be hard to peg back in the closing stages. THOU SHALL SING got back to winning ways when winning his last start over this course and distance on a wet track. Vincent Ho retains the ride and if confirming his recent improvement, he should pose the biggest threat to the top choice. EXCEL DELIGHT has not finished too far behind the winner in his last three starts. He runs well over this distance with a record of one win and three second place finishes from six attempts. Joao Moreira takes the ride and the pair should be right there in the run down to the wire. ELITE BOY ran a good race last time when setting the pace. Matthew Poon retains the ride from pole position and the pair should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 6
KA YING EXCELLENT raced from a handy position, moved up and drew off well for the victory over this course and distance last time. He should race up with the speed from his good barrier position once again and can notch up a quick double. TELECOM ROCKET stayed on well at the finish when second over this course and distance last time. It is interesting that Zac Purton has opted to ride him over the top selection who he won on last time. TEAM POWER is lightly raced and has good form to his name. He raced three wide last time, but finished off his race strongly to finish runner-up. The manner in which he ran on that day, suggests that the seven furlongs will be right up his alley. He has cracked a good draw and should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. HEZA BEAUTY has produced three decent efforts to date. He was his own worst enemy last time as he was very slow into stride. However, the manner in which he ran on was encouraging. If jumping on terms today, he should be one of the leading contenders in this race.

Race 7
FANTASY is one of the better bets on today’s card. He has rewarded for consistency when winning his last start over this course and distance. He has a good record over this distance having won twice and finishing second twice from five starts. Joao Moreira does duty from pole position and the pair should be tough to beat. HAPPY ALUMNI was his own worst enemy last time as he was slow into stride. He produced good form prior to that effort and if jumping on terms today, he should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice. HANDSOME BO BO has shown good signs of returning to best form in his last two starts. He didn’t settle in his last start, but stayed on well at the business end of the race. If jockey Zac Purton can switch him off early, he may be right there in the run down to the finishing post. GLENEALY GENERALS ran a good race last time despite excuses on the turn. With a bit of luck in running, he has a good chance of contesting the finish.

Race 8
UTOPIA LIFE was bumped at the start last time, but still managed to set the pace and hold on for victory. He has a good record over this distance having won once and finished second three times from six attempts. Chad Schofield knows the son of Wicked Style well and the pair should be hard to peg back in the closing stages. CALIFORNIA ARGENT is much better than his last start over seven furlongs on the turf. He ran a very good race in his penultimate run under today’s apprentice on this surface. If repeating that effort, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. HANDSOME REBEL showed good signs of returning to best form in his last start. He is likely to race up with the speed from his good draw and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. JUST NOT LISTENING has not finished too far off the winner in his last three starts. All three of his career wins have come over this course and distance. Joao Moreira does duty once again and the pair cannot be ignored.

Race 9
WILL POWER is lightly raced having just had the four starts to date, all of which have been over this course and distance. He has won three times and finished second on the other occasion. Karis Teetan knows him well and the son of Power looks the right one in this field. ENCORE BOY has very good consistent form to his name. He should have finished closer in his last start, but was crowded at the 200m mark and hampered at the 150m mark. Antoine Hamelin does duty from a mid-field barrier and the pair should be one of the leading contenders for the placings. GUNNISON didn’t have much luck in his last start on the turf track. He raced three wide and didn’t have much running room in the closing stages. He runs well on this surface and with a bit of luck in running, he should be right there in the fight out to the finish. KINGS SHIELD showed good signs of returning to best form last time. He drops back in distance this afternoon and if confirming his recent improvement, he should earn a cheque.

Race 10
MIGHTY GIANT has top form to his credit and looks to be one of the better bets on today’s programme. He had things his own way in front last time and won with a ton in hand. Jockey Zac Purton is unbeaten from two starts on the son of Hard Spun and will be looking to keep that record intact today. SMOOTHIES was a tad disappointing in his last start at Happy Valley. That was over 1650m and he may be better suited to the seven furlongs at this stage of his career. He gets the services of a claiming apprentice today and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces. JUNEAU PARK is a winner of his last two starts. He runs well for today’s jockey having won twice and finishing second twice from as many starts. The son of Ocean Park merits healthy respect in this line-up. TRIPLE TRIPLE ran a very good race in his last start over this course and distance. Karis Teetan takes the ride this afternoon and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of the son of Per Incanto in the closing stages.
