International Racing: Thursday 09 April 2020 – Kilmore

A competitive nine-race programme is scheduled for Ascot on Friday. The best bet comes in Race 2 in the form of OUTLAW KING. He finished runner-up on debut and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be tough to beat.

Race 1
RIVER BEAU has come well in his last two starts. He took on much stronger in his last run and was not disgraced when finishing second. He drops in class today and with the likely speed that will be on early, he should settle towards the rear and mow down the frontrunners in the run down to the finishing post. Jason Whiting knows him well and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. AT WAR finished runner-up on debut, was given a 32-week break and returned finishing third just 0.2 lengths behind the winner last time. He set the pace in that run, but was caught in the closing stages. He gets the winkers fitted for the first time and should strip a much fitter horse today.

Race 2
OUTLAW KING produced a promising debut effort when finishing runner-up over this course and distance. He should have finished closer that day, but the jockey fumbled his rein late in the race. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement today. Shaun O’Donnell will be looking to redeem himself this afternoon. GINGER FLYER made the natural improvement in her second run. She returned from a long 26-week break. She moved up really well last time but showed signs of needing the run in the closing stages and she should strip a much fitter horse today. She merits healthy respect.

Race 3
RUBY JEAN is the value bet on today’s card. She followed up her maiden victory with another solid win in her next start. She makes her course and distance debut this afternoon and if suited to the conditions, has a good chance of notching up the hat-trick. She gets the services of decent pilot William Pike who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle. PARASAN ran on strongly to shed his maiden tag over this distance last time. He does take on stronger opposition today, but he is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. He does have a wide draw to contend with, but he likes to come from off the pace and mow down the frontrunners in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 4
QUINTARO is slowly coming back to best form. He ran on from last in his latest effort over this distance. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If repeating that run with William Pike in the saddle, he should be the one they all have to beat. MAGIC’S HERITAGE is a maiden taking on winners, but has produced three decent efforts to date. The manner in which he finished off his race last time suggests that he is looking for this type of distance. Steven Parnham has his first ride for trainer John Buckley and the pair could start off on a winning note.

Race 5
MELROS BEACH has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He showed good speed in his last start over this distance, but was overhauled late. His record over this distance is fair with three seconds and a third-place finish from seven attempts. Regular pilot Craig Staples does duty this afternoon and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. POINT TAKEN is a filly taking on the males. Her last effort over the 1100m on this course was good when finishing third. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. She is likely to settle just off the pace and do her best work up the straight. Should the top selection fluff his lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 6
ANGELIC RULER was considered good enough to compete in a Group 1 event last time. She was given a 22-week break since that outing and makes her return today. She won her barrier trial leading into this race so shouldn’t have any issues with regards to fitness. She has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. William Pike rides and the pair should be very hard to beat. FLIRTINI produced some decent form before given a 17-week break. She is a two-time winner in Group 3 company. Her record over today’s distance is good with two wins and two third place finishes from five attempts. She should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 7
ALTAMONT is showing good signs of returning to best form. He was given a 31-week break and has improved in all three outings since. He was his own worst enemy last time as he was keen in the early stages, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. He steps back up in trip today and if confirming his recent improvement, he may be the one they all have to beat. UNENDING is a mare taking on the males and she has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. Jordan Turner knows this daughter of Blackfriars well and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 8
This is a competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to DIAMONDS FOR ALL who is a son of Universal Ruler. He got back to winning ways with an impressive victory over 1300m at Geraldton last time and won his only attempt over today’s distance which is a plus. He gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. STAROS BONNIE ROSE produced a decent comeback run after 49 weeks off the track. It must be noted that in his only other previous ‘second run after rest’ scenario, he won. The son of Kendel Star should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and it is encouraging that Brad Parnham retains the ride.

Race 9
This is another open contest and caution is advised. The tentative first choice is ICE TRADE from the Michael Lane stable. She has very good consistent recent formlines to her credit. Her record over today’s distance is good with two wins and two second place finishes from seven attempts. Chris Parnham knows her well and the pair should be hard to get past in the run down to the finishing post. TRUMP THIS has good consistent fomlines to his name. He returns from a long 29-week break today and has his first run for his new conditioner. He is yet to be unplaced on this course with a record of one second and two third place finishes. If fit and well, he should pose a big threat to the top selection.
