International Racing: Thursday 9 April 2020 – Wyong

A small eight-race programme is scheduled for Wyong on Thursday. There are four short-priced favourites in the first four races and they all look hard to beat. The best bet is ZANZIDANCE in Race 2. She finished second on debut and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should go one better on Thursday.

Race 1
RED HOT CHILLYPINS is a filly taking on the males and has finished second in her last three starts. She turned for home five wide in her last start over 1875m and ran on strongly to the line. The manner in which she finished off the race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra distance on offer today. She gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice and should get rewarded for consistency this afternoon. WHISKEY JACK showed good improvement in his last start over this type of distance under today’s jockey, Keagan Latham. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If confirming his recent improvement, he should pose a big threat to the top choice.

Race 2
ZANZIDANCE is the best bet on today’s card. She finished runner-up on debut over this course and distance. She raced from a handy position, steadied at the 600m mark and chased down the leader at the top of the straight. It must be noted that the jockey rode her 1kg overweight that day. The daughter of Deep Field would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be hard to beat. AT THE HELM was disappointing in his last start after finishing runner-up in his penultimate run over this distance. Mitchell Bell steps back into the saddle this afternoon and the pair must be included in all bets.

Race 3
DUTY has shown good improvement in each of his races thus far and is one of the better bets on the card. He set the pace in his last start, gave a kick at the 350m mark, but was outrun in the closing stages. He tries the 1350m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should go one better today. Jeff Penza will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. QINGHAI LAKE produced a promising debut effort over 1100m. He was given a lengthy 31-week break since that race, during which time he would have strengthened up. Mitchell Bell rides on his return and if fit and well, he should pose a threat to the top choice.

Race 4
DIVINE ELEVEN produced three good runs before given a 17-week lay-off. He showed signs of needing his last outing over six furlongs at Eagle Farm. He finished second once from two starts over this distance and should strip a much fitter horse for today’s race. With some luck, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure. QUEEN SHIP has shown good improvement in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this course and distance. She was running on well at the finish last time and recorded the best 600m-to-finish time of the day. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Louise Day retains the ride and the pair should pose a big threat to the top selection.

Race 5
LADY LEGEND is the value bet on this afternoon’s card. She has produced three good runs since having a 33-week break. She was unlucky not to win her last start as she battled to find running room up the straight. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this course and distance. With a bit of luck in running, she should be the one they all have to beat. BONFICA MAID has produced two decent efforts since winning her maiden race. She placed in her only attempt over this distance and with Mitchell Bell in the irons, she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 6
FAVRA was rewarded for consistency when winning his maiden race over the minimum trip at Newcastle three weeks ago. He ran on strongly to win that day and will enjoy the rise in distance this afternoon. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. He does take a step up in class, but the manner in which he won suggests there is more to come from the son of Dissident. Jeff Penza does duty this afternoon which is encouraging. ESTROVERTO finally shed his maiden tag at the 18th time of asking over this type of distance on this course. He takes on stronger this afternoon, but is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. There should be more to come from him.

Race 7
TRAJECTION has come well since her 21-week break winning two of her last three starts. She settled in a mid-field spot last time, ran on to pick up the lead at the 250m mark and raced away for the victory. She has won three times from six attempts over this distance. Andrew Gibbons retains the ride today and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. ABSOLUTE TRUST has finished runner-up in his last three starts. He moved up very well to win his last start but was outgunned in the final 100m of the race. He won his only start under Mitchell Bell and the pair have a good chance of keeping that record intact.

Race 8
RIFLES is lightly raced and won his maiden at the fourth time of asking over this course and distance. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. He does take a step up in class this afternoon, but he is lightly raced and there should be more to come from the son of Smart Missile. Keagan Latham retains the ride and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. BOLLYWOOD is a filly taking on males. She won her maiden in her last start over 1350m on this course. She makes her return today off a well-deserved 21-week break and doesn’t have issues with the drop to the minimum trip, having finished second.
