Three Group 1 races at Deauville kick off the weeks racing in France and what a way to do it. The French Equivalent of the 2000 Guineas provides for a tantalizing day of racing, when the colts and fillies versions of the prestigious race take place in the 5th and 6th race respectively. VICTOR LUDORUM lines up in the colts’ race and he still has class written all over him, despite failing to maintain his unbeaten record last time out. If back to his best, he will win as a Best Bet should. See more here.

Race 1 – 13:30 –
1000m – Class 3 Handicap - Turf
Selections: 1 – 4 – 2
– 6 – 5
WIND TEST may
have just needed that comeback run three weeks back and he should strip a lot fitter for this follow up attempt. He
has a solid record second up and having finished first and second from three
attempts over this trip, the drop to the 1000m should be ideal. With the 4kg
claiming apprentice up, he looks the one to beat this time. KENBAIO returns for his first run this
year, after a 6-month absence from racing. He kicks off his campaign over the
minimum trip and he should have enough speed to feature prominently at this
level. The son of Kendargent has a solid record at this course and with
Pierre-Charles Boudot back in the irons, he looks a big threat first up.
Race 2 - 1900m –
Class 3 Handicap – All-Weather
Selections: 2 – 1 – 8
– 3 – 10
FOREVER COCO gave
a promising sight when returning just over a week ago and she should relish
this slight step up in trip, second up. Despite not winning on the All-Weather,
the daughter of Rio De La Plata has notched up 2-wins and 2-seconds from her
8-starts so far. Christian Demuro regains he ride and that should give her
followers plenty of confidence. With the expected improvement to come, she
should be tough to beat. LETTYT FIGHT
returns after a 3-month absence and he brings with him a solid record on the
All-Weather. He meets the right sort of field first up, with Pierre-Charles
Boudot up and if not too in need of this run, he should be a big threat. Both THE ROOM and ABBELLO have shown up well on return and should be worth including.
Race 3 – 14:35 –
1900m – Class 3 Handicap – All-Weather
Selections: 4 – 2 – 6
– 8 – 7
TAKEDOWN would’ve
just needed that last start, when returning for his first run after a 3-month
absence. The 3-year old colt now reverts to the All-Weather surface where he
showed very promising signs towards the back end of his last campaign. He finds
conditions to suit from pole position and with Maxime Guyon up, he’ll be the
top pick in the 3rd. JUST FOR
DREAM has his first start on this surface, while stepping out for his
second run after a rest here. Drawn widest, he will be looking to build on that
decent comeback run in this class and if taking to the All-Weather, he should
feature prominently.
Race 4 – 1600m –
Class 1 Handicap – Turf
Selections: 1 – 11 –
6 – 10 – 8
ROCQUEMONT
continued his promising form when returning after a 3-month absence last time.
He was just touched off into 2nd in that run over this trip and
he’ll be cherry ripe for his follow up attempt here. The son of Anodin is in
the form of his life at the moment and despite the wide draw, he gets the
services of Christophe Soumillon and should be a big contender. RAJKUMAR also gave a very good account
of himself when returning for his first run after a short absence recently. The
7-year old gelding has a useful record first and second up, so he too will be
cherry ripe for this. From a plum draw and with Pierre-Charles Boudot in the
irons, he looks a big threat to the top one. TANTPISPOUREUX caught the eye last time out and he will be looking
to make a big impression here. The 4-year old son of Showcasing has featured
prominently in this class before and deserves plenty of respect now.
Race 5 – 15:50 –
1600m – Group 1 – Turf
Selections: 5 – 7 – 2
– 1 – 3
VICTOR LUDORUM clearly
needed that last start, when tasting defeat for the first time in his short
career. The son of Shamardal was on of the top European 2-year olds last year
and he clearly has the credentials to put that run behind him and redeem
himself in this Group 1 contest. Stable companion, ARAPAHO, hasn’t quite faced the same strength of opposition as the
top selection, but he has notched up an impressive career record of 3 wins from
4 attempts and the son of Lope De Vega is clearly progressive. Pierre-Charles
Boudot is an eye-catching jockey booking, having ridden THE SUMMIT to victory when beating the top selection recently, and
they must be included here. The latter was impressive when winning that last
start, mentioned above. Despite the jockey change, he must be considered.
Race 6 – 16:25 –
1600m – Group 1 Fillies – Turf
Selections: 3 – 7 – 2
– 1 – 4
TICKLE ME GREEN caught
the eye on debut, when taking on Group 3 company and going down by just
0,70-lengths in third. The daughter of Sea The Moon retains the services of
Pierre-Charles Boudot and with progression to come, she should be a big factor
in the finish. DREAM AND DO would’ve
needed that last start, when returning from a 6-month absence. She finished
right in front of the top selection in that run and should strip a lot fitter
for her follow up attempt. Maxime Guyon retains the ride for this rise in class
and she deserves plenty of respect. TROPBEAU
has won four of her six career starts, which includes Group 2 and Group 3
successes. To add, the daughter of Showcasing has placed at this level. She
beat the top two selections last time, in the Group 3 contest mentioned above
and with Barzalona retaining, she must be included.
Race 7 – 17:00 – 2000m
– Class 2 - Turf
Selections: 1 – 3 – 2
– 6 – 4
DAWN INTELLO
appears to be one of the better bets on the card. Having notched up an
impressive debut win on the All-Weather, he has returned fresh and confirmed
that with a big performance in stronger company last time out. Down in class
here, he should strip a lot fitter and with Barzalona retaining, he should be
very tough to oppose. VIENNE also
gave a very good sight when returning after a rest last time out, in Class 1
company. Cristian Demuro rode her on that occasion, and it is encouraging to
see him retain the ride here. Drawn well, she’ll be one of the leading
contenders at the business end. HELLENISTIQUE
wasn’t disgraced last time out, when returning from a rest and having won his
penultimate start in this class, he will have plenty of scope to feature here.
Race 8 – 17:35 –
2000m – Group 1 (Arabian) – Turf
Selections: 4 – 3 – 2
– 1 – 5
DERYAN clearly
needed that comeback run after a 3,5-month absence from the course and he
certainly wasn’t disgraced to finish 3rd, despite the 11,5-length
margin. With a useful second up record, he will be cherry ripe for this and has
the credentials to land the lions share of the prize money. HAJRES has his first run back after a
rest, but he seems to race well when fresh after a rest, having picked up a
record of a win and two seconds from four first up attempts. He has featured
prominently at Group 1 level and must be included once again. SHALAA finished behind the top
selection last time out, when having his first run back after a 2-month break.
With just 8 starts to his name, he will have plenty more to come and deserves
respect in this small, but competitive field.
Race 9 – 18:10 –
1900m – Class 3 Handicap – All -Weather
Selections: 3 – 4 – 2
– 10 – 14
ALE TANGO was
showing some good consistent form on this surface towards the back end of his
last campaign and he returns first up, after a 3,5-month rest here.
Pierre-Charles Boudot retains the ride and the pair should be right there at
the business end of a competitive looking Class 3 event. NEW TRAFFORD arrives
under similar circumstances as the top selection, with this being his first run
back after a rest on the back of some useful form. Barzalona takes the ride
first up and if not too in need of it, he should be involved in the finish. LADY ARKADINA arrives on the back of a
turf victory last time out, when racing fresh after a short absence. He has
some useful form on the All-Weather and if building on that penultimate start
he should be a big threat.
Race 10 – 18:45 –
1900m – Class 3 – All Weather
Selections: 10 – 1 – 13
– 9 – 5
RIVER OF SILVER
deserves another look after a disappointing effort last time out, when finding
a fair amount of betting support. He seems to be better suited this this
surface and the slight drop in trip is bound to suit the son of Rio De La
Plata. Soumillon takes the mount from a wide barrier and on his best form he
should be worth following. WHERE IS CHARLIE should be better off here,
after that solid comeback on the turf run last time. She reverts to the
All-Weather where she ended off her last campaign and with Tony Piccone
retaining the ride here, she’ll be one of the bigger threats to the top one. BURMA MOON and JENILAT CHANCE have both performed well in their respective
comeback runs and with the run under the belt, should go close once again and
must be included in wider perms.
