International Racing: Saturday 16 May 2020 - Strasbourg

International Racing: Lyon Parilly – Friday 15 May 2020

Racing heads to Strasbourg on Saturday and plays host to a ten-race programme which includes three jump races. The best bet is LUPO NERO who is in Race 1. He has finished second in all three of his career starts to date. Regular pilot Pierre-Charles Boudot does duty once again and in a weak field, he should shed his maiden tag.

Race 1 – PRIX DE PAQUES
The best bet on the day is LUPO NERO from the Mickael Seror stable. He has finished runner-up in all three starts over the mile trip thus far. The drop to the seven furlongs may be what the son of American Devil is looking for. Regular jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot rides from a good draw once again and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure today. NORWEGIAN STAR produced a promising debut effort when finishing under a length behind the winner over a mile at Cagnes-Sur-Mer. The grey colt would have come on with the experience under his belt and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be one of the leading contenders for the placings. JEAN RACINE has finished third in his last two outings, the latest of which was over this distance at Longchamp. It is interesting that Pierre-Charles Boudot who was aboard him that day, has opted to ride the top selection. If not in need of the run this afternoon, he should run into the money once again.

Race 2 – PRIX UCELLO DU LAC
The first of the jump races is a Point To Point race over 5200m. The stable of Patrice Quinton could saddle the first two past the winning post. TORNADO DE KERSER is a thirteen-year-old gelding who has top recent form to his credit. He has won eleven times, finished second twice and third twice from eighteen attempts over this distance. He loves racing on this course as he has won six times and second twice from ten outings. On form, he should take a power of beating. VOL NOIR DE KERSER was a tad disappointing in his last start, but produced top form prior to that. He has won three times and finished second once from four attempts over this distance. He won his only outing on this course and must be respected in this type of field. DIEGO DES ONGRAIS finished second when trying this distance for the first time in his last start. He makes his course debut this afternoon and if not in need of the run, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

COMPULSORY’S last three starts have been very good having won twice and finishing second once. He returns from over a year’s break, but it is encouraging that jockey Alex Badel takes the ride on his return. He has placed over this distance in the past and from barrier position four, he may be the one to side with here. SANT ANGELO’S last two starts were good. He is yet to be unplaced from four outings on this course having won twice, finishing second once and third once. The six-year old gelding loves racing over this distance and with Alexis Pouchin back in the saddle, he should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice. GLOBAL PASSION has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He drops back in distance this afternoon, but will get the services of a 2.5kg claiming apprentice which should help his cause. With a bit of luck from his wide barrier position, he should run into the money.

This is a weak Class 4 Handicap and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is ACHKI who has shown good signs of a form return in his last two starts, the latest of which when finishing fourth over this distance at Compiegne. He should come into this race as one of the fitter horses and from pole position, looks to be the one they all have to beat. ULTIM’REVE ran a good race when finishing second over this distance at Toulouse last time. His form this year has been fair having won once and finishing second once from four starts. If repeating his latest effort, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. VICTORIOUS CHAMP is not the most consistent sort, but his penultimate run when going down by just a short head over 1300m was good. The son of New Approach makes his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he should be involved in the finish. The engagement of Alex Badel is a big plus.

The second of the jump races is a hurdle race over 3800m. FLEURY BEDE is a lightly raced five-year old by Coastal Path. He was an easy winner of his first two starts and then was a tad disappointing when finishing fourth last time out. He would have been given time to strengthen up in his two months off the track. He does try the distance for the first time and if seeing out the extra trip on offer, he should get back to winning ways under a 1kg claiming apprentice. CABO REAL got back to winning ways in his last start over a similar distance at Nimes. The son of Camelot should come into this race as one of the fitter horses and with the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice, he should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. FAUGERES got his first victory under the belt with an impressive win over 3600m. He does take on stronger opposition this afternoon, but he is lightly raced and looks progressive. With a bit of luck in running, he should be right there in the fight out to the finish.

Race 6 – PRIX DUNADEN
SAFIYANN has finished second in his last two starts over 1900m on the all-weather track at Deauville. The manner in which he finished off those two races suggests that he will enjoy the extra furlong on offer this afternoon. The son of Zoffany jumps from a good barrier position and may be the one they all have to beat. LE BAYOU has not finished too far off the winner in all of his seven starts to date. He tries the distance for the first time, which may be what he is looking for at this stage of his career. Regular pilot Aurelien Lemaitre does duty and the pair may be the ones to pick up the pieces should the top selection fluff his lines. REVENTADOR produced a promising debut effort when finishing fourth over nine furlongs at Longchamp. The son of Zoffany would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement this afternoon. He gets the services of a 2.5kg claiming apprentice and if not in need of the run, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

MILLTOP was an impressive winner on debut over eleven furlongs and followed that up with a decent effort next time out. He returns from a six-month break this afternoon, during which time he would have strengthened up. It is encouraging that jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot does duty on his return and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. SOLKIA is a maiden taking on winners, but he has not finished too far off the winner in all six of his outings. He has finished second twice from three attempts over this distance. The son of Mafki makes his course debut today and if suited to the track, should be right there in the run down to the wire. DICTEE won his maiden with ease over this distance last time. The slight concern is that he returns from over a year’s break, but during that time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of this outing today, he has a good chance of running into the money from a good barrier position.

The last of the jump races is a Steeple Chase over 4200m. NOIT ET ROSE is a winner of his last two starts. He has won once and finished third twice from six attempts over this distance. Hakim Tabet knows the son of Bonbon Rose well and the pair should notch up the hat-trick this afternoon. PORTENTOSO finished runner-up in his last start over 3800m at Compiegne. The son of Santiago tries the distance for the first time and if seeing out the extra trip on offer, he should be right there in the run down to the finishing post. BANONITO has decent recent form lines to his name. He has won twice, finished second three times and third once from ten attempts over this distance. The son of Honolulu gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice today and must be included in all bets.

Race 9 – PRIX DE LA BRUCHE
The value bet on this afternoon’s card is IRON SPIRIT with Alex Badel in the saddle. He has fair recent form to his credit. The son of Turtle Bowl likes racing over this distance having won three times, finishing second seven times and third once from twenty-one attempts. He should come into this race as one of the fittest horses and may be the one to cause the upset. TAKADIYR’S last three starts have been good. He likes racing on this course having won twice from six outings. Jockey Mickael Berto knows him well and the pair merit healthy respect. CHARLY showed good signs of a form return when finishing second over nine furlongs at Lyon La Soie on the all-weather surface last time. He should have no issues with the return to the turf as he has won on the surface in the past. He gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and with a bit of luck in running, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 10 – PRIX DES VIOLETTES
Another weak Class 4 Handicap closes off the meeting. The tentative first selection is MAGNETIQUE from the Jess Parize stable. His last five starts have been decent. He has won three times, finished second twice and third once from seventeen attempts over this distance. Apprentice Coralie Pacaut who claims the 1.5kgs knows him well and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure here. VIM has fair recent form to his credit. He finished third in his only start on this course. The son of Zafeen likes racing over this distance having won twice, finishing second four times and third on six occasions. Eddy Hardouin knows rides him for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. PRIMUS INCITATUS got back to winning ways in his last start over a mile at Chantilly on the all-weather surface. He should have no issues with returning to the turf as he has won twice on the surface in the past. Alex Badel does duty this afternoon and the pair must be included in all bets.
