International Racing: Northam – Monday 01 June 2020

International Racing: Saturday 30 May 2020 – Morphetville

A competitive eight-race programme is scheduled for Northam on Monday with good underfoot conditions expected. The best bet is AMELIA BEDELIA in Race 8. She returns from a break but she performs well for her rider and if class prevails, then she will be tough to beat this afternoon.

Race 1
ALBY’S PRIDE has placed in his last two starts and must be respected with a 3kgs apprentice allowance, assisting his cause. SPECIAL IMAGE looks the only natural danger having placed fourth in a blanket finish last time out at Pinjarra Park. RIDING HOOD FAME was right behind the top selection last time out and could upset in this contest.

Race 2
This is a weak Maiden Plate where some caution is advised. PROTECTED ACTION wasn’t disgraced last time out, even though he finished midfield at Belmont and will benefit from a 3kgs apprentice allowance. BABYTINO is a son of He’s A Decoy out of Marriwood. He placed in both of his Trials and looks to have been well-prepared for this contest. LASCIA STAR is another one who finished midfield last time out at Belmont but can run into the places of this contest.

Race 3
PALAVER has placed twice this season and finished runner-up last time out at Bunbury and must be respected in this moderate Maiden Plate. WILD VALLEY gets a blinker strike this afternoon and with the natural improvement expected, she could pose a threat to the top selection. JOYRIZE disappointed last time out at Ascot but is much better than that effort on paper. She can find a swift return to form in this contest.

Race 4
JAY DEE is coming along the right was and looks set to shed her maiden tag this afternoon. She finished runner-up at Pinjarra Park last time out and the form is looking good with a winner coming from it since. DOOWAHDIDDY placed at Pinjarra Park last time out and should strip much fitter for this contest. She looks the biggest threat to the top selection. JACK IN THE BLACK surprised last time out at Albany and if repeating that effort, he can run into the places of this contest.

Race 5
THE ITALIAN JOB shed his maiden tag last time in impressive fashion. The son of Trade Fair still has massive scope for improvement and can notch up another victory. Joseph Azzopardi retains the ride and the pair must be respected. ARTIE’S COMET is another with plenty of scope and he placed in a Trial leading into this race. He looks to have been well-prepared for this contest. MOAMA ROSE is much better than her last effort suggests and she can run into places.

Race 6
PASTRY is the value bet on the card. She is the likely pacemaker in this contest and has placed in her last three starts. She is knocking on the door for her fourth career victory after a decent effort last time under William Pike. She looks like a big runner in an open contest. GLASGOW GIRL runs well on this track and will benefit from a 3kgs apprentice. She looks like a serious threat to the top selection. CARIBINIER won last time out at Ascot and the form has worked out well with two horses having come out to win since. The chestnut just may be able to notch up another victory this afternoon.

Race 7
FINGERMARK won his last start at Pinjarra Park but performs well on this track. It is encouraging that Steven Parnham retains the ride and the pair must be strongly considered in this contest. FUHRER followed up his second career victory well last time out when placing at Belmont and he looks a big threat, despite having to shoulder top weight. BARTRADER looked a winner last time when nabbed in the dying stages of the race and he can make amends this afternoon.

Race 8
AMELIA BEDELIA returns from a 22 week layoff but did go back-to-back under Jason Brown towards the end of last year and on those efforts, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure. She shed her maiden on this track, which is a plus. ALCINA returned well after a break last time in a blanket finish and Belmont and she looks the biggest threat to the top selection. SHESAPOCKET ROCKET disappointed after her second career victory but can run into the places this afternoon.
