The Premier Soccer Club revealed the player's sad passing on Monday after he reportedly collapsed at his home.
The 30-year-old had captained the side, having joined Arrows from Umgeni City Movers FC by former coach Manqoba Mngqithi in 2013.
Komphela told FARPost: "He was a great leader, very quiet and influential.
"The information you get from the youngsters was the support he gave them. He guided them a lot. He helped introduce some of the youngsters into Golden Arrows.
"Even though he had an injury, he was on his way back. He was a great influence to the youngsters, always willing to help them settle in at the club."
Mngwengwe played over 140 games for Abafana Bes’thende.
