Neil Morrice: International Racing - Tuesday 2 June 2020

Neil Morrice Best Bets

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Newcastle and Kempton Park on Tuesday 2 June 2020.

Newcastle Best Bets

Race 4: No9 - MUBAKKER
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute - Jockey: Dane O’Neill

The profile of MUBAKKER suggests he’s going to win more races as he gains experience. He’s delivered on this Tapeta surface (at Wolverhampton) and on Polytrack at Kempton and has only run four times. He might have disliked the soft ground when a beaten favourite on his handicap debut at Ascot and should be happier back on the all-weather.

Race 6: No2 - DIGITAL
Trainer: Kevin Ryan - Jockey: Tom Eaves

Ryan saddles three juveniles at the meeting but DIGITAL could prove the pick of them in the colours of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing. He’s by Kodi Bear, a notable sire for fast two-year-olds, and is reported to have shown promise at home. Furthermore the stable is in form and sent out a one-two in the sprint handicap here yesterday.

Race 9: No10 - AJMAN PRINCE
Trainer: Alistair Whillans - Jockey: PJ McDonald

Course specialist AJMAN PRINCE has issues but with few miles on the clock and a proven ability to go well fresh can make his mark in this mile and a half handicap. He can be a handful in the preliminaries but has two successes over this distance here to his name and can show improvement from a wind operation in the close season.

Kempton Park Best Bets

Race 3: No3 - HELVETIAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Kevin Frost - Jockey: Rosa Ryan

At a big double-figure price it may be worth chancing HELVETIAN who is doing well for his relatively new connections and operates effectively when returning from a break. This is an open sprint that invites players to seek value, and at around 20-1 he could be just that.

Race 4: No10 - SCIENCE
Trainer: Archie Watson - Jockey: Oisin Murphy

Watson launched his training career with a Royal Ascot-winning juvenile and it’s short odds he’s looking at the Coventry for SCIENCE, owned by Qatar Racing. The 170,000 Guineas purchase is wound up for his introduction and should show them a clean pair of heels in the hands of the champion jockey.

Race 5: No3 - COLD FRONT
Trainer: William Haggas - Jockey: James Doyle

COLD FRONT is going to be short but it’s very hard to oppose him in this maiden sprint over six furlongs. He was mugged in the final strides of his Newbury debut in the autumn and it’s important to consider what a warm contest it was, throwing up four winners subsequently. At bigger odds newcomer MARIETTY could go well, having shown promise at home.

Race 6: No2 - FIRST RECEIVER (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute - Jockey: Ryan Moore

If Stoute has a Derby horse then FIRST RECEIVER could be the one, and it could be a dream ticket for Epsom if he lands this for owner The Queen in the hands of Moore. Owing to the lockdown restrictions Moore has regularly ridden out at Freemason Lodge, and he’s partnered this son of New Approach who badly needed his second and final start last season but is poised to take this out if overcoming the widest gate.
