Over the years Baroka have been known as a club that does well in Cup competitions. It was in the very same Nedbank Cup that they rose to prominence when they knocked the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows out as a third-tier side in 2011. Having tasted Telkom Knockout glory two years ago has emboldened them to try and go all the way.

Bakgakga were rumoured to be on sale, but the chairman Khurishi Mphahlele was quick to refute those claims, calling them ‘blatant lies’. Hopefully from coach Dylan Kerr’s point of view, the boys will be in the right frame of mind heading into this encounter. As far as their PSL position is concerned, they’re three points above the relegation zone and tied on points with AmaZulu, who currently occupy the promotion/relegation spot.

Bloemfontein Celtic have parted ways with coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who has joined Chippa United. Former assistant coach John Maduka has been promoted to the head coaching position and will be assisted by Simon Gopane. This will ensure continuity at this critical stage of the season. There are rumours of players not receiving salaries, but truth be told, this has been the situation at the club for the past two years or so, and it’s never resulted in poor performances on the pitch.

Prediction: Baroka (37/20)

Given Mashikinya, who was diagnosed with Covid-19, has fully recovered and will be available for selection. This is a tricky one to call considering that both teams will be a bit rusty and I’ll make my prediction based on value and the fact that Baroka are always determined to give Cup competitions a good go. I’m putting my money on the Baroka win priced up at 37/20.
