Neil Morrice Best Bets & Tips

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Wednesday's racing taking place at Sandown Park, Beverley, Yarmouth, and Kelso!

SANDOWN PARK

Race 1: No5 - VITARE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: James Doyle

Consistency is the watchword of VITARE, whose Australian pedigree makes him a sprinter that will progress as he gets older. The gelded son of Sidestep placed in six consecutive races on turf before opening his account at Catterick then troubled the judge for an eight-time in as many starts on his handicap debut and first run on Polytrack at Kempton. This is tougher, but with nine runners is a good race to be in each way.

Race 3: No6 - MY SWALLOW (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute - Jockey: Ryan Moore

Not to be confused with a champion two-year-old of the same name from the early seventies, MY SWALLOW showed sufficient when friendless in the market on his debut here to suggest he’ll take a lot of beating in this less competitive heat. The Shalaa colt finished sixth to One Ruler who didn’t let the form down when placed in a Listed race at York.

Race 7: No3 - KALEIDOSCOPIC (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon - Jockey: Dane O’Neill

KALEIDOSCOPIC’s fourth in a warm novice at Newbury reads well as she moves into handicap company for the first time. The daughter of Le Havre couldn’t consolidate in a Ripon maiden but is probably some way better to that underwhelming third behind Spirit Dancer. She should relish the long uphill climb to the post.

BEVERLEY

Race 3: No7 - STRANGERONTHESHORE
Trainer: Nigel Tinkler - Jockey: Faye McManoman

Having started 125-1 when a two and a half lengths third to Italian Breeze on debut at Redcar, STRANGERONTHESHORE goes into this novice as a filly to be taken seriously. The Cable Bay filly can take full advantage of the weight she receives from Chelmsford scorer Zeyaadah, and show that good first effort was no fluke.

YARMOUTH

Race 1: No1 - ULTRA VIOLET
Trainer: Jane Chapple-Hyatt - Jockey: Cieren Fallon

Deserving of a change of luck, ULTRA VIOLET can successfully give away weight all round in this fillies’ handicap. The Gleneagles filly has responded positively to the fitting of a hood and hit the woodwork on recent starts at Leicester and Chepstow. She can bring to an end the winning run of hat-trick seeking Clever Candy.

Race 2: No6 - READY TO VENTURE
Trainer: William Haggas - Jockey: Tom Marquand

The beautifully- bred READY TO VENTURE will be hard to beat in this mixed maiden. The Kingman filly enjoyed an educational introduction to the racecourse at Newmarket, staying on into second behind A’shaari without being given a hard time. She is going to be more streetwise today and is strongly fancied to go one better.

Race 6: No1 - COTTAM LANE (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan - Jockey: Kevin Stott

COTTAM LANE was not without his supporters on debut at Hamilton when finding only Bickerstaff his master. That two and a half-length defeat begs to be improved on, while like so many juveniles from this stable he is certain to have learned bundles from the run.

Race 8: No12 - POPE GREGORY (Each Way)

This faster ground will suit POPE GREGORY whose been a big roughie on each of his last four outings, including when just out of the money in a Goodwood seller last time. He didn’t get the trip on that occasion and can do better now back to a mile.

KELSO

Race 4: No10 - TIGHT CALL (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Vaughan - Jockey: Richard Johnson

TIGHT CALL was much too good for Skiddaw Valleys on seasonal reappearance at Southwell and remains a horse with abundant potential. He faces a rematch with the second on worse terms but has room for further progression if avoiding the ‘bounce’ factor.

Race 8: No2 - ALL CLENCHED UP
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien - Jockey: Paddy Brennan

Long-distance traveller ALL CLENCHED UP shaped well on debut against the more experienced Some Might Say and only needs to go forward from that Fontwell run to play a big part in the outcome of the concluding bumper. The filly can thwart recent scorer Flexi Furlough on the way to better things.
