Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: GILBOA (8)
Jockey: Kennedy W  - Trainer: Peter P

GILBOA showed good improvement in his last start over six furlongs on this course. He moved up like a winner that day and tried hard all the way to the line. The step up to the 1450m should suit the son of Byword well and from pole position, looks tough to beat. Warren Kennedy takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Jockey: Khumalo S - Trainer: Fortune A

BEFORE THE DAWN has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She loves racing over this distance with a record of four wins, two seconds and three third place finishes from 13 attempts. The speedy daughter of Oratorio gets the services of S'manga Khumalo once again and the combination may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

Race 4: VALBONNE (1)
Jockey: Simons R - Trainer: Magner R

VALBONNE ran a decent race in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He was reported to be not striding out that day which makes the run that much more encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The 6yo gelding should strip a much fitter horse today and may find himself in the winner's enclosure.

Race 5: SHOGUN (3)
Jockey: Ferraris L - Trainer: Peter P

SHOGUN won a very good race over nine furlongs on the Standside course last time. He took the lead at the 350m mark that day and won a lot easier than the official margin suggests. The drop to the mile should not be a concern for him as two of his seven career victories have come over this trip. Luke Ferraris steps back into the saddle and he should follow up.

Jockey: Zackey C - Trainer: Houdalakis M

LORD MELBOURNE ran a fair race when taking on much stronger company last time. It must be noted that Expressfromtheus has come out and won again since. The son of Duke Of Marmalade takes a drop back in class today and if putting his best foot forward, he should be the one to beat.
