This looks to be a very open F&M Handicap and some caution is suggested. EUROGEM was slightly disappointing last time out when finishing seventh, 3.9L behind the winner, but a repeat of her penultimate run where she ended up second over 1500M, just a head behind the victor, would make her a big runner in this line-up. She will have to negotiate a wide nine out of eleven draw, but she should be doing her best work late. GWENNYBEGG overraced early before ending up in fourth place in her latest start over 1500M, just over three lengths behind the winner. He has a far kinder draw two and should threaten the top choice. ANACREON had to be held up between the 300M and 200M mark last time out over 1300M and did well to finish second. She is drawn the widest of them all, but is likely to be dropped out of it early and then start picking off the frontrunner over the latter stages of the race. ILIA showed marked improvement to finish second in her last outing over seven furlongs, just a neck behind the winner. A repeat of that effort would see her right up there in the mix.
JULE'S SPIRIT is seldom far off the action and finished second in his last outing over this c&d, a neck back from the winner. He will have to overcome a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, the form of that last race has been franked and he could go one better today. YULONG KNIGHT on the other hand has cracked pole position. His last two runs have been solid, finishing third in the latest over five furlongs, just over a length behind the winner, this after being hampered at the start. KIEVANN followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a second-place finish over the same distance, just over a length behind the winner. He looked a possible winner closed to home that day, but was collared over the dying stages. From draw six, the gelding should be included in all bets.
Race 8
KIJITO returns from a 17-week rest and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he had posted two solid efforts before his break and a repeat of those runs would see him right up there in the firing line. He faces draw nine, but two runners out of his last start have come out and won and he should be doing his best work late. RIOLI made good late progress when showing sudden improvement to be a short-head winner of his last start over the c&d. He has pulled gate two and may prove good enough to complete his double today. TERRITORIAL has shown gradual improvement in his last three outings, finishing sixth in the latest over five furlongs, three lengths back from the victor when returning from a 30 week absence. He is drawn in gate eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
