We were set to have a full set of fixtures over the weekend but with the Bulls facing COVID-19 concerns their game with the Lions has been pushed back. There's still two great Round 5 fixtures in store with Western Province taking on the Griquas in the day's opener and the Cheetahs and Sharks bringing down the curtain on proceedings.
Western Province v Griquas
Saturday 26 December
Newlands Stadium

To Win Match
Western Province 1/16
Draw 33/1
Griquas 8/1

Western Province (-17.5) 17/20
Griquas (+17.5) 17/20

Western Province will be looking to close the gap on the log-leading Blue Bulls when they take on cellar-dwellers, the Griquas. The hosts currently sit nine points adrift of the Bulls but a bonus-point win would see them trailing the table-toppers by just four points headed into the final two rounds of the tournament's round-robin phase.

The Griquas, on the other hand, sit at the foot of the log and are well out of the semi-final running. They, in fact, have yet to win a game in either Super Rugby Unlocked or the Currie Cup.

Both teams were out of action last week with Western Province enjoying a bye week and the Griquas game against the Bulls being called off due to COVID concerns.

In terms of their Currie Cup results, the hosts have won one and lost two going down 20-22 the Bulls and  22-19 to the Lions while beating the Pumas 28-14. As noted earlier, the Griquas have lost all of their games going down 17-20 to the Lions and 22-17 to the Pumas.

When the two sides met in Super Rugby Unlocked Western Province hammered the Griquas 6-39 in Kimberly.

Verdict: Stormers (-17.5) 17/20
I feel the week off will have done Western Province the world of good. They'll have had some time
to iron out a few flaws in their game and I can see the hosts running up a similar scoreline to the one they did in Super Rugby Unlocked.

Free State Cheetahs v Natal Sharks
Saturday 26 December
Toyota Stadium

To Win Match
Cheetahs 31/20
Draw 22/1
Sharks 11/20

Cheetahs (+4.5) 17/20
Sharks (-4.5) 17/20

Next up is the pick of the day's action with the fifth-placed Cheetahs taking on the third-placed Sharks in Bloemfontein. Only seven points separate the sides on the standings, and the Cheetahs desperately need the win here as they are five points off Western Province who currently occupy the final play-off berth.

The two sides experienced contrasting fortunes last weekend with the Sharks being convincingly beaten 27-12 by the Lions in Johannesburg and the Cheetahs beating the Pumas 31-35. While the Free Staters did bag the win last weekend, neither side really impressed and they have a lot of areas to work on heading into this crucial fixture.

When the duo met during the Super Rugby Unlocked season the Sharks edged the game 19-13 in a very hotly contested affair.

Verdict: Sharks 11/20
I'm expecting a big response from the visitors. They were absolutely outclassed this past weekend and the players-  particularly their tight fine - will want to atone for such a limp showing.
