An exciting ten-race programme is scheduled for Sha Tin this Sunday. There are four Group 1 races on the day including The Longines Hong Kong Vase, The Longines Hong Kong Sprint, The Longines Hong Kong Mile and The Longines Hong Kong Cup. The best bet on the day is in Race 9 in the form of Winning Dreamer. He is unbeaten from five career starts and has a very good chance of keeping that record intact.

RACE 1

SUNSET WATCH should have finished closer last time as he was bumped at the start and raced three wide around the turn. He is likely to settle in a mid-field position this afternoon and with a bit of luck in running, he may be the one to beat. MASTER MONTARO is having his first start in Hong Kong. His last two barrier trials coming into this contest have been good. It is encouraging that Zac Purton does duty and if not in need of the run, he should pose a threat. TRUST ME ran a good race when finishing third over this distance at Happy Valley last time. He should have finished closer that day as he was hampered at the 400m mark. Matthew Chadwick retains the ride from a good draw and the combination merit healthy respect. WINNING BREW is much better than his last start suggests. His form prior to that outing was good and with a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

RACE 2

This is a competitive Handicap contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is ULTIMATE GLORY. He has not finished too far off the winner in his last four starts. He didn’t get the best of starts last time and was blocked for running room between the 400m mark and the 300m mark. Joao Moreira takes the ride this afternoon and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. NORDIC WARRIOR showed good signs of a form return last time. He was slow into stride that day, but kept on well at the business end. If jumping on terms, he should be competitive. AUTHENTIC CHAMP won a good race over this course and distance last time. He had to overcome a wide draw that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. He jumps from pole position and can follow up. STUNNING IMPACT ran a decent race in his last start when finishing fourth over this course and distance. He didn’t have much luck in running as he was hampered at the 900m mark and was forced to check at the 150m mark. Karis Teetan retains the ride which is encouraging.

RACE 3

NATURAL STORM has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He was unlucky not to win his last start when finishing second, a neck behind Beauty Angel. He was blocked for running room at the 300m mark that day and hung out in the final 200m. He is better off at the weights this afternoon and should turn the tables. BEAUTY ANGEL is a winner of his last four starts, three of which were over this course and distance. Zac Purton steps back into the saddle and he may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line. CHEVALIER PRINCE won a good race over a mile on this course last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests he will have no issues with the extra distance on offer. He should be right there in the run down to the line. ARROGANT showed good improvement in his last start when dropping to this class. If repeating that effort, he should have a say in the outcome.

RACE 4

The first Group 1 event on the day is The Longines Hong Kong Vase over 2400m. The first choice goes to Hong Kong based, EXULTANT. He has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He has won four times, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this course and distance. He is having his peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. His biggest threat could come from the Aidan O’Brien trained, MOGUL. He was a tad disappointing when finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf last time, but is much better than that outing suggests. He is loaded with ability and if all went well with his travels, he should be competitive. COLUMBUS COUNTY finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests he will enjoy the extra distance on offer. Joao Moreira steps back into the saddle which is a big plus. ROYAL JULIUS makes his way to Hong Kong from France. He was disappointing in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in his penultimate start, but ran a good race in his last effort in a Group 2 contest. He jumps from a good draw of three and merits inclusion.

RACE 5

The Longines Hong Kong Sprint is the next Group 1 event and HOT KING PRAWN will be looking to better his second-place finish in this contest last year. He won a good race in the Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint and comes into the race in fine form. He has won four times, finished second five times and third once from 13 starts over this course and distance. The 6yo gelding may be the one to side with under Joao Moreira. CLASSIQUE LEGEND was ultra-impressive when winning The Everest last time. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this distance. If settled into his new surroundings, he should pose a threat to the top choice. COMPUTER PATCH finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. He meets his conqueror on level weight terms and may have to settle for the same result. RATTAN’S last two starts over this distance have been good. He is likely to settle near the rear of the field today and will be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the line.

RACE 6

LUCKY PATCH followed up his debut victory with a decent third-place finish over this course and distance. He still raced green in the running that day and had to check at the 50m mark. Apprentice Matthew Poon who was aboard the son of El Roca when winning on debut, steps back into the saddle. He looks to be a progressive type and from his mid-field draw, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure. HEZA BEAUTY has very good recent form lines to his credit. He has won three times, finished second three times and third twice from eleven starts over this track and trip. Neil Callan retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect. TRUE LEGEND has not finished too far off the winner in his last three starts. He is likely to race from a handy position this afternoon and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line. SPLENDOUR AND GOLD had to be eased at the start last time, but boxed on well up the straight to finish 3.5 lengths behind the winner. He won his only attempt over this course and distance and should be involved in the fight to the finish.

RACE 7

The penultimate Group 1 event of the day is The Longines Hong Kong Mile. GOLDEN SIXTY has won 13 of his 14 career efforts to date. He has won three times over this course and distance. He faces his toughest test to date, but has all the ability in the world and should take a power of beating. ORDER OF AUSTRALIA won a very good race in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile last time. He raced from a handy position that day and found more where it matters most. He jumps from pole position and should be one of the leading contenders. ROMANISED has some decent Irish and French form to his credit. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from 11 starts over this distance. He jumps from a good draw and must be included in all bets. ADMIRE MARS makes the trip from Japan to try and defend his title. He has won six times from nine starts over this distance. He has had the perfect prep coming into this race and cannot be ignored.

RACE 8

The last Group 1 is The Longines Hong Kong Cup over ten furlongs. MAGICAL has very good form to her credit. She has won seven times, finished second three times and third once from as many starts over this distance. She has her first run in Hong Kong and if suited to the track, she should take a power of beating. FURORE won his last two starts well, the latest of which was over this distance. Exultant who finished behind him that day takes his place in Race 4 on the card and it will pay to monitor his progress in that event. He will be looking to notch up his first Group 1 victory today. SKALLETI has good recent form lines to his credit. He has won seven times and finished second once from nine starts over this distance. He jumps from a good draw of four and merits healthy respect. DANCES WITH DRAGON finished 3 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

RACE 9

WINNING DREAMER is the best bet on the day. He is unbeaten from five starts to date, three of which were over this course and distance. He faces his toughest test to date, but may still be ahead of the handicapper and can keep his record intact. SKY FIELD was running on too late in his last start over seven furlongs. He has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this course and distance. Joao Moreira knows him well and the combination should be one of the leading contenders for the placings. DUKE WAI ran a good race when finishing second behind the top choice last time. The slight concern is his wide draw, but he gets the services of Karis Teetan who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. CALIFORNIA RAD finished 4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is weighted to finish closer this afternoon, but he too has a wide barrier position to overcome.

RACE 10

PRECIOUSSHIP is the value bet on today’s card. He is much better than his recent form suggests. He has won three times and finished second twice from ten starts over this course. He takes a drop in class today and with a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should be the one to beat. TOURBILLON DIAMOND produced a promising debut effort over seven furlongs. The manner in which he finished off his race that day caught the eye. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a threat to the top choice. SUPER WEALTHY showed good signs of a form return last time when staying on well at the business end of the race. He takes a slight drop in class today and cannot be left out. STAR PERFORMANCE is much better than his last start when racing wide around the turn. His penultimate run when finishing second on the all-weather course was encouraging. He gets the services of claiming apprentice Dylan Mo should help his chances.
