Race 2

KAPTIVE has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over six furlongs and then second next time out over the same distance, 3.8L behind the winner when returning from a 25 week break. He did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, but nevertheless stayed on well over the closing stages. He has a handy draw three and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. Although ANOTHERTHINKCOMIN' is recorded as finishing nineth on debut over 1100M, he was only just over three and a half lengths back from the winner, this despite coming the widest into the straight. From gate six, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice. DELIBERATION finished third on debut over 1100M, just over a length and a half behind the winner, but then did not make the expected improvement when finishing last next time out over six furlongs, 6.3L adrift of the victor. He did however jump awkwardly that day and from draw four, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 4
Half of the field in this, the first leg of the Jackpot, are having their first run and as is always the case in these types of races, a close eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to what the various connections feel about their chances of winning on debut. Of the raced runner, WILLOW'S VOICE may prove to be the best. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys and returns from an 18 week rest, without the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust. She did however stay on strongly when finishing third on debut over five furlongs, just under a length back from the winner. She jumps from gate six and should be right up there in the mix. DELEXO has his first start, but has won all three of his barrier trials. If not too green, he may prove too good for this field. SNIPER LEGEND also has his first run. He finished third in his first barrier trial and then second in his latest. He is however a 2yr old taking on older horses and faces the widest draw of them all in gate eleven, so some caution is suggested

Race 5
QUATUM has only had the three outings to date, winning by just over a length on debut over 1100M, but then finished last in his latest start over 1100M, more than ten lengths adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 21 weeks. It should however be noted that he jumped awkwardly and was then bumped shortly after the start that day, so he could be excused for that effort. He returns here after winning both of his barrier trials and if recapturing his debut form, he looks to be the one to side with here. GO FOR GOLD had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over this c&d by half a length when returning from a lengthy 65 week break. The fact that his connections have kept him in racing suggests that they believe that he has still got something to offer them. His gate two will do him no harm. COLONEL is drawn one outside the latter and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a sixth place finish next time out over six furlongs, 6.2L back from the winner. He did jump awkwardly and then overraced in the early stages of that contest, so that effort is perhaps best ignored.

Race 6
SIESTA KEY is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her credit and won her penultimate start over six furlongs and then went on to finish second next time out when stepping up to this distance, just a short-head behind the winner. She has pulled gate four and will get 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and she should give the boys a good run for their money. SNITZIFY has posted two solid last runs, the latest over this trip, just over half a length behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly that day, but then recovered well to make good late progress over the closing stages. She has a wideish draw eight, but will have ex-SA jockey Keegan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. DERBARI showed good improvement when ending up second in his latest outing over 1100M, just under a length adrift of the winner. He was returning from a 22 week break that day, but if he has continued down that same path, he should be included in all bets, jumping from his draw three.

Race 7
A 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the slight preference goes to NO LAUGHING MATTER who will be looking to complete her hat-trick after winning her latest start over 1300M by a short-head. She hit the front at the 200M pole and then held off all challengers in the dash down to the winning post. She has gate four and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice. WHATSIN has won two of her last three outings since returning from an 18 week rest, the latest over seven furlongs by almost a length. She is drawn one outside the top pick and the form of that last race has stood up well. NEVER NEVER RIVER won his penultimate start over six furlongs by some 2.3L and then was a tad disappointing when finishing seventh in his next outing over 1300M, 5.3L back from the winner in very heavy going. He did however jump awkwardly and then overraced in the early and middle stages of the contest, so a line should be drawn through that effort. He will have to negotiate draw eight, but should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.
