Race 4

Today’s value bet, SIR EAGLE is seldom far off the action and although sixth in his last start over this mile journey, he was just over a half length behind the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from gate, he looks to be the one to side with here. DUCHESS MARIZZA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished second in her last two runs over six furlongs and 1300M respectively. She was making good late progress last time out, suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to her liking. She has gate seven and will be looking to go one better today. She could be the biggest danger to the top choice. MAJOR ARTIE followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fourth place finish next time out over 1300M, just over two lengths back from the winner. He did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day and gets the blinkers removed for today’s contest. If this move has the desire effect, he should be right up there in the mix.

Race 5

SHADOW FLIGHT finished strongly when making solid improvement to end up second last time out over twelve furlongs, just a head behind the winner. He was badly bumped just after the start and found himself towards the rear of the field that day, but recovered well and might just about have won the race had it not been for that incident. He has a handy draw two and should be right up there when they hit the line. THE FRINGE is a 4yr old filly taking on males. She has finished second in her last three outings, ranging from a mile, up to 2100M, the latest when 2.3L adrift of the victor, this despite coming three wide into the home straight. She is drawn one outside the top pick and should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up. GUNALUVA is in turn drawn one outside the latter. He won his penultimate start over 2300M by one length and then finished sixth next time out over twelve furlongs, just over two and a half lengths back from the winner. He jumped awkwardly that day and will get the services of ex-SA jockey Keegan Latham, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

COCO CUBER is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she completed her hat-trick in her penultimate start and was then denied her quartet of victories last time out when a head second over 1300M. It must however be noted that she was hampered at the start that day. She will have to negotiate draw nine out of ten, but on the plus side, she will get 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. SPIRANAC has finished third in his last two runs, the latest over six furlongs where he was just over a length and a half behind the winner. He overraced in the early and middle stages of that race, but will have cheek pieces fitted for the first time, presumably on the advice of Keegan Latham, who retains the ride for today’s contest. He jumps from gate six and should be big runner in this field. BELIEBER had nothing go his way before ending up in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, finishing 7.8L behind the winner. He reared at the start and then overraced in the early stages, before being checked at the 800M mark and as such that effort is best ignored. He is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

FRENCH BONNET is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she is a speedy sort who has only had the two runs to date. She finished third on debut over five furlongs, three lengths behind the winner, but then showed the expected improvement to put nearly three and a half lengths between herself and the opposition next time out when stepping up to six furlongs. She clearly has some ability and should have improved further. From gate six, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. PUMBAA RUA had his consistency rewarded with a last run short-head victory over six furlongs, this despite not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight. He faces a wideish draw eight, but could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice. HINCHBEAST showed marked improvement to end up in fourth place in his last outing over this c&d, just one and a half lengths back from the winner when returning from a lengthy 33 week break. He is drawn one outside the latter, but showed plenty of toe in that last effort and is likely to use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. He should be involved in the finish.
