Jackpot (Race 6 – 9) - Cost: R54.00.

Race 6
The Jackpot races are littered with plenty of late scratchings, which has disrupted anti-post betting and draws, so some caution is advised. A 5yr old mare and a 4yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the narrow top choice goes to MONEGAL who came widest into the home straight, but then made good late progress to finish fifth last time out over a mile, just under three lengths behind the winner. She drops in distance here, but did win over seven furlongs three runs back, so this should not be an issue. She is still drawn the widest, but now comes into gate eight, as opposed to the original eleven. TRAJECTION missed out on her hat-trick when finishing seventh last time out over a mile, 4.8L back from the victor. She did not get the clearest of passages that day and the form of that race has been franked. From draw five, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today. ABOVE AND BEYOND showed marked improvement when staying on well to end up fifth last time out over 1500M, just over a length and a half behind the winner. He is drawn one outside the latter and should not be lightly overlooked in this line-up.

Race 7
Fillies could dominate the finish to this race as well, with two 3yr old and one 4yr looking to secure the trifecta. SHAIK came four-wide into the home straight before going on to win her last outing over 1100M by a length. She finished strongly that day, suggesting that she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. She jumps from gate five and could be the one that they all have to beat. SAHRA had her consistency rewarded with a one and a half-length victory last time out over six furlongs, this despite shifting about in the straight. She gets a handier gate two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick. TYCOONIST followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over 1300M, just over two lengths adrift of the winner. She was hampered on entering the home straight that day, so that effort was encouraging. She will have to negotiate draw eight but should be right up there in the mix.

Race 8
NEVER TALK has won five out of her first six starts, the latest over this distance by just over a length. She is drawn in gate six and could be in line to notch up win number six. As such, she is taken to be the value bet on the card. HIBISCUS LADY renews her rivalry with the former having finished 1.3L behind her in the race mentioned above. Whist that was a promising effort, she faces the top selection on 0.5kgs worse terms for the beating, so may have some difficulty in reversing that result, notwithstanding having pulled draw two. MADAM LEGEND missed out on completing her hat-trick when finishing third in her last outing over six furlongs, 3.3L behind the winner. She has a wide draw eleven to overcome, but on the plus side, will get 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. She should be included in all bets.

Race 9
With the five late scratchings in this contest, two of which were his main rivals, the way may have been cleared for today’s best bet, PRIVATE EYE to chalk up his fifth career victory. He completed his quartet of wins last time out over 1300M when finishing strongly to put one and a half lengths between himself and the opposition, despite having to switch at the 250M pole. He has a handy draw four and could prove difficult to topple here. SMART IMAGE won his penultimate outing over six furlongs by just under a half-length and then went on to finish sixth next time out over 1300M, 4.9L back from the winner. He faces gate eight but gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he could threaten the top pick. CATAPULT is seldom far off the action and was hampered shortly after the start before ending up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, just over a length and a half behind the winner. He is drawn one outside the latter, but will get 3kgs removed from allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.

Jackpot (race 6 – 9) - Cost: R54.00.

Race 6
DOLLAREURO returns a 20 week break, but has had the benefit of three barrier trials, winning the last two. He missed out on his hat-trick when finishing third over 1350M before the rest, but the form of that race has stood up well. He will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but will have ex-SA jockey Robbie Fradd in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the card. DIXON BAY has his first run after a lengthy 47 week absence, but did finish second in this only barrier trial to prove his fitness. He made good late progress when finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, just over one length back from the victor. The form of that race has been franked and from gate seven, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice. DEJANOVA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over this c&d with a fourth place finish next time out over the same c&d, 4.6L behind the winner. She stayed on well that day and should be involved in the finish here.

Race 7
HIDDEN EYES had finished second in his two runs prior to ending up in fourth place in his last outing over 1100M, just over a length adrift of the winner. He hit the front close to home and looked the possible winner before being collared in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has produced a subsequent winner and jumping from draw six, he could be the one to side with here. SMOOTH MOVE returns from a 17-week rest and two barrier trials, winning the latest. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should be a factor in this contest based on his previous form, notwithstanding a wideish gate nine. REBEL SALUTE is drawn one inside the latter and has his first start after a longer 24 week break. He has however also had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing fourth in the latest. He had finished second in his two runs prior to the rest and will be hoping to go one better today.

Race 8
MINT STRIP followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over 1100M, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and seems likely to enjoy going over the shorter trip. His draw four will do him no harm and he is made the value bet on the program. DER SIEGER has cracked pole position and has shown steady improvement in his last three runs, finishing fifth over six furlongs last time out, 3.6L behind the winner. He was returning from a 14-week rest and was hampered in running before coming five wide into the home straight. With better luck in running today, he should be right up there when they hit the line. IAMICAN is a 4yr old filly taking on males and was a tad disappointing in her last start when finishing ninth over seven furlongs and was immediately rest for 31 weeks. She returns here without having had a barrier trial so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but six winners have come out of that last race, so she needs to be respected in this field.

Race 9
This looks to be a tricky F&M Handicap where some of the main contenders face very wide draw, so some caution is suggested. This is not the case with STARFILLY, who has in fact, pulled pole position. She finished fifth in her last start over six furlongs just over five lengths behind the winner when returning from a 24 week break and may well be looking for this greater test of stamina. TO DEM WITH LOVE is drawn one outside the former and won her maiden race last time out over six furlongs by just over half a length. She finished strongly that day, hitting the front at the 150M mark and then fighting off all late challengers. She faces stronger here, but has a kind draw two and on that last effort, she could be up to the task at hand. COTTON FIELDS has only had the three runs to date, winning over six furlongs on debut then finishing fourth in her two subsequent outings, the latest when almost three lengths back over six furlongs. She faces a very wide draw eighteen, but she could be the best of those runners having to deal with wide draws.
