Race 5

There are three unraced runners in this the first leg of the Jackpot and is always the case in these types of races, a close eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication if any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. A special note should be made of KEE KEE MOFEED who finished second in her only barrier trial. SUNSHINE MOSHE returns from a 37 week break and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust. The gelding did finish fifth on debut over 1100M, just under three lengths behind the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well. He jumps from draw seven and might be the best of the raced runners. LITTLE HELA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she showed the expected improvement second time out when finishing second over five furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. She has cracked pole position and is sure to have improved with the run under her belt. SUITE BOOM is another 3yr old filly in the race. She returns from a 23 week absence and has also not had a barrier trial. She finished third first time out over five furlongs, two lengths adrift of the victor. The form of that race has been franked and from gate three, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 6

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the way may have been cleared for today’s best bet, ALBERT'S MELODY to record his maiden victory. He had to weave this way through the field in the home straight before finishing second first time out over this c&d, just under two lengths back from the winner and the form of that contest has been franked. He was friendless in the betting markets that day, suggesting that his connections did not believe that he was ready to win on debut. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he may prove difficult to topple. His gate two will do him no harm. BHUTAN is a 3yr filly taking on males, but she finished third on debut over six furlongs, five lengths behind the winner, this after one barrier trial, despite coming the widest of them all into the straight. She is drawn one outside the top choice and could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick. MITTATA finished second first time out over six furlongs, seven and a half lengths back from the winner. He raced up with the leaders that day and whilst having to deal with a wide draw fourteen today, he is likely to employs the same tactics here. The benefit of having had the one outing should not be underestimated and he should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

JUST BUSINESS had his consistency rewarded with an almost three length win last time out over a mile at this track. He hit the front at the top of the straight and then held off all late challenger for a convincing victory. He steps up in distance today, but the manner in which he finished off that last race would appear to indicate that this should not be an issue. He jumps from gate eight and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card. DEFY is seldom far off the action and won his last start over this c&d when putting three and a half lengths between himself and the opposition. From gate seven, he looks to be the immediate danger to the top pick. PACKER'S BOND overraced when slightly disappointing last time out over a mile, finishing over eight and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but that effort is best ignored. He did win over ten furlongs three runs back and if showing that type of form here, he should be respected. He will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but has this peak run after returning from a 14 week break and should be doing his best work late.

Race 8

BIG DAY OUT was hanging from the 200M mark last time out when ending up in third spot over five furlongs, just over two lengths back from the winner. He was trapped on the fence in the straight and only got to see daylight very late, which makes the effort that much more encouraging. He has pulled gate three and should be right up there in the firing line. NICCI'S SONG is a 3yr old filly taking on boys. She has only had the three runs to date and had improve with each start, culminating with a 3.8L victory last time out over five furlongs. She was immediately rested for 15 weeks and returns here without having had a barrier trial, but the form of that last race is solid and from her pole position, she could threaten the top selection. LUXURIAL is a 5yr old mare who has finished second in her last two starts, the latest when just under a length back from the winner over today’s trip. She is a speedy sort who was only collared close to home in that last outing and although draw wide out in gate fourteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
