India and England are playing for a place in the World Test Championship final with Australia watching on hoping against hope for results to go their way.

India vs England | 5 February - 9 February | M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

To Win Match
India 5/10
Draw 9/82
England 7/2

India will have taken a great deal of confidence from their win down under but they need to follow that up with a home series win to clinch a spot in the World Test Championship final.

Rishabh Pant has gone a long way towards securing his place as India's number one gloveman after a solid series behind the stumps and his batting heroics at the Gabba.

Ravichandran Ashwin enjoyed a good series away from home and will be a handful back at home, there will be some debate around who is to partner him. Kuldeep Yadav may find himself on the outs but the hosts could also opt to play three spinners considering the strength of Washington Sundar's batting. Ravindra Jadeja will miss the series through injury.

India's batting is imposing as Virat Kohli returns to lead the star-studded top-order. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara did a great job as the senior players in Australia while Shubman Gill impressed after being given a run in the side.

England come into this series buoyed by results in Sri Lanka but also aware that the challenge they face is considerably greater.

The tourists will need their spinners Jack Leach and Dom Bess to be on the money as India are far more likely to punish wayward bowling from the pair.

England are likely to need a big effort from their middle to lower order if they are to get anything out of this series with Ben Stokes the dangerman in that group.

Rory Burns returns to the England setup and could replace Zak Crawley as opener, but his preparation has been far from ideal.

Verdict: India 5/10
India should establish control of the series early.
