Neil Morrice: International Racing- Monday 8 February 2021

Neil Morrice:

Neil Morrice brings you all of his best bets and tips for Monday's racing coming your way from Carlisle, Newcastle and Wolverhampton.

CARLISLE

Race 1 No6 MALPAS (Nap)
Trainer: Donald McCain Jr - Jockey: Theo Gillard

MALPAS is the proverbial ‘winner without a penalty’ as he would have scored at Catterick but for falling at the last. His stable are firing in winners and he can take full advantage of the 7lb received from the penalised Wetlands.

Race 7 No9 ONE FER MAMMA (Each Way)
Trainer: Matt Sheppard - Jockey: Stan Sheppard

Although no match for wide margin scorer Del La Mar Rocket at Exeter, ONE FER MAMMA endorsed the promise shown in a point-to-point. Her claims might go under the radar in a race where Nells Son dominates the market.

NEWCASTLE

Race 5 No14 STORM GODDESS (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Longsdon - Jockey: Brian Hughes

The jumper-bumpers, brought in to help make up for the many jump fixtures lost to the weather, have produced some strange results since being introduced last month. Big double-figure priced winners are not rare, but in this contest STORM GODDESS can prove to be a worthy favourite. She has the best hurdling form of anything in the field, has earned in each of her seven outings and can trump course and distance scorer Travel Lightly.

Race 8 No8 ROMEO BROWN (Each Way)
Trainer: Phil Kirby - Jockey: Ross Chapman

ROMEO BROWN has a lot to do on paper against The Steward who appeared to be gifted one of these over course and distance last week. However, the seven-year-old got going when that bird had flown and surely won’t allow that ‘after you’ present to be repeated, having previously given the useful Burbank plenty to think about in a similar contest.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 5 No3 SECRET VICTORY (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby - Jockey: Christian Howarth

SECRET VICTORY has decent form on this Tapeta surface, having chased home Big Team on his only run on it here last November. The Dubawi gelding then opened his account at Kempton, and lost no caste in defeat against the useful Variyann at Chelmsford. He’s Godolphin’s only runner of the day and needs to be taken seriously.

Race 6 No6 YANKEE STADIUM
Trainer: George Scott - Jockey: Callum Shepherd

Bargain basement purchase YANKEE STADIUM showed that he’s retained much of his ability when placed on debut for his trainer in a Chelmsford novice a fortnight ago. Easy to back on that occasion, he is going to be favoured in the betting in this, and can stave off the challenges of Going Underground and Byford.

Race 7 No8 QUOTELINE DIRECT (Each Way)
Trainer: Micky Hammond - Jockey: Billy Garritty

QUOTELINE DIRECT should go well in the nightcap and has a good chance of making it a first win in two and a half years. His run here to finish third to G For Gabrial last week is solid form, while on his two previous visits to Dunstall Park he finished second. With his clear liking for the track he deserves a change of luck.
