Race 4

CANADIAN SPICE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the
winner in each of her last two outings, the latest when third over six furlongs, just under a half
length behind the winner when returning from an 18 week break. She was denied a run at the
250M mark that day and should have finished closer to the winner than she eventually did. She
will have to negotiate a wide draw thirteen, but the form of that last race has been franked to
boost her chances. OBLIQUE on the other hand has a handy gate two. He is a 2yr old colt
taking on older horses and returns from an 18 week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier
trial, finishing second in both of them. He started favourite when finishing second on debut over
five furlongs, just under two lengths off the winner and the form of that race has stood up well.
He gets the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham and could prove to be the biggest danger
to the top choice. TORINDA has cracked pole position and has also only had the one run where
he finished third over 1100M, 4.1L behind the victor. He was staying on well that day and would
have come on with the run under his belt, so should be included in all bets.

Race 5

Today’s value bet, YOU RANG is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she goes for her hat-
trick here after winning her last two starts over 1100M, the latest by a head. She is a
speedy sort who used frontrunning tactics to win those last two outings and may prove
difficult to peg back over the closing stages. She is sure to put her pole position to good
use. LAND OF VALENS followed up his penultimate run victory with a sixth place finish next
time out over seven furlongs, just over a length adrift of the winner. He was crowded shortly
after the start in that run and then made good late progress in the dash down to the wire. He jumps from draw five and should be right up there in the mix. FLASH POINT is another 4yr old
filly in the race. She made solid improvement last time out when ending up in second place over
six furlongs, a half length behind the winner. She only saw daylight at the 350M pole that day
and with better luck in running today, she should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up, this
despite facing a wide gate eleven out of twelve.

Race 6

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the way may have opened for LOCA to
post his second career win and he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. He was
hampered shortly after the start before recovering well to finish sixth in his last outing over
six furlongs, three and a half lengths off the winner. He was returning from a 16 week
absence that day and was doing his best work late. He has pulled draw two and with better
luck in running today, he could prove difficult to topple. Two 3yr old fillies could chase him
home, with the slight preference going to PIPPALI who won her penultimate start over 1300M
by a head and then finished fourth next time out over six furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner. She
did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, so could have just about have
won the contest but for that. She jumps from draw seven and could emerge as the biggest
threat to the top pick. STAR POINT showed the expected improvement when winning by
nearly two and a half lengths over 1500M at this track second time out. She returns from a
15 week rest, but did finish third in her only barrier trial to prove her well-being. She has
gate four and will retain the services of Keagan Latham, which is a plus.

Race 7

Two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta. DUCHESS ADELE has shown progressive improvement in her last two starts, the latest when fourth over seven furlongs, just a head back from the victor. She was returning from a 23 week absence that day, but finished well to just be denied her third career win. She jumps from gate five and if she has continued down that same path, she could be the one that they all have to beat. FRAZIL was a head winner of her penultimate outing over this trip and then followed that up with a second place finish next time out over the same c&d, one and a half lengths behind the winner. She will have to overcome draw ten, but on the plus side, she will get 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice. SOCRATES finished sixth in his last start over seven furlongs, just under four lengths back from the winner when returning from an 18 week absence, but he won by 3.8L over this c&d three runs back and can’t be discounted in this field. His kinder draw six, puts him firmly in the race.
