DStv Premiership: ‘It’s a massive loss’ – Given Msimango on Kaizer Chiefs’ cup shock

Chiefs crashed out of the cup competition at the first hurdle for the third time in four years after a penalty-shootout defeat to Milford at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

The result means that Chiefs will likely extend their nine-year trophy drought with the Nedbank Cup their last realistic hope of silverware.

“I cannot express how deeply disappointed we are and it’s not just me but the entire team that is feeling that way,” Msimango said.

“We understand the magnitude of the loss we faced over the weekend and how big it was.

“It’s irrespective of the opponent we played and whether they play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship or not.

“To us it’s a massive loss for the club as an institution and to the supporters. We truly understand and we are the first people to take accountability.

“I say this as honestly as I can, we might not go to the media or say this on our social platforms, but we take accountability within ourselves.

“We need to be honest with ourselves as players and we need to tell each other the truth.”

Msimango also openly admitted that the Soweto giants needed to start converting their chances in front of goal.

“We just have to take our opportunities and put the ball in the back of the net,” Msimango added.

“I’m not going to place that responsibility solely on our attackers, also as defenders, we need to contribute with the height we have in converting our set-pieces as well.

“So it’s a team problem, it’s a footballing problem and it’s something we are continuously working on.”
