Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Wednesday’s racing taking place at Doncaster, Kempton Park, Wolverhampton, and Uttoxeter!
DONCASTER
Race 1: No5 – MOHAAFETH
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Jim Crowley
Latest Generation and Side Shot already have points on the board but the race is pitted with regally-bred debutants, of whom MOHAAFETH can prove the pick. The son of Frankel and Sea The Stars mare French Dressing has shone in his work in Newmarket, while his trainer loves to bring his best tackle to his Yorkshire homeland.
Race 5: BET 365 SCEPTRE FILLIES’ STAKES (Group 3)
No4 – JUBILOSO
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Jim Crowley
The talented JUBILOSO is a risky proposition in the day’s feature, such has been the extent of the foot issues she’s endured this year, but if turning up in the form we know she’s capable of she could show herself to be a bit better than these foes. Hailing from a family of multiple winners, she lost her action on comeback at Royal Ascot and has been trained with a kid glove subsequently. The overriding message, however, is that Stoute wouldn’t bring her here unless he thought she is primed to do herself justice.
Race 6: No6 – DEREVO (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
There are few better workhorses at Freemason Lodge than DEREVO, and although he’s not been able to put it together on the track in three outings so far this season, the talented colt can click here as he continues to tread the path of competing at the major Festivals. His latest efforts at Goodwood and York give him a solid chance of returning to winning ways.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 2: No3 – ADACE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass
Plenty in this fillies’ novice appeal on pedigree but there’s sure to be an element of value about ADACE. The daughter of Adaay has ability and can get into the shake-up if avoiding running green.
Race 4: No2 – MAJESTIC DAWN (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Cole – Jockey: Charles Bishop
MAJESTIC DAWN makes a belated entrance to the stage against some dangerous-looking three-year-olds. However, he showed with a close up fifth behind Lord North in the Cambridgeshire last year that he’s capable of mixing it with the best of them in the Class 2 handicap arena, and he reappears in a Class 3 today. While the colt will benefit from the outing, he’s run well on each of his first outings over the past two seasons.
Race 8: No2 – GAVLAR
Trainer: William Knight – Jockey: Adam Kirby
GAVLAR’s best two efforts this season came on the Polytrack here and at Lingfield. While he’s not obviously well handicapped, he responded well to cheek pieces to trouble the judge last time and can benefit from having the super-strong Kirby on his back for the first time.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 3: No4 – ELECTRIC BLUE
Trainer: James Tate – Jockey: PJ McDonald
ELECTRIC BLUE has run into a couple of useful foes on her first two starts, finishing third to Dandalla at Newcastle and second to Aussie Stormer at this course a month ago. The draw hasn’t been kind to this pacey individual, but she should be cherry ripe to deliver if that can be circumnavigated.
Race 6: No6 – PRETTY PICKLE (Nap)
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Joe Fanning
PRETTY PICKLE blew a gasket when backed as if defeat was out of the question at Chepstow. The hooded filly went out like a light on that handicap debut but has to be given abundant respect back in what looks a weak fillies’ novice.
UTTOXETER
Race 3: No13 – MINELLA ENCORE
Trainer: De Richard Newland – Jockey: Cillin Leonard
Point-to-point and dual bumper winner MINELLA ENCORE ran well to earn in all three outings over jumps last season. Having moved from Willie Mullins, he’s been found a good race in which to excel for his new handler, whose horses are really cutting the mustard on the summer circuit.
Race 4: No3 – THE BUTCHER SAID (Nap)
Trainer: Olly Murphy – Jockey: Richard Johnson
Free going THE BUTCHER SAID is a horse with enormous ability, as demonstrated when coming home unchallenged on his chase debut at Southwell. His pent up enthusiasm needs to be harnessed by Johnson and released at the business end of this novices’ chase. If that happens the gelding can prove too speedy for Longhouse Sale.
Race 6: No1 – KINGS TEMPTATION
Trainer: Ben Case – Jockey: Bryan Carver
Having twice delivered for us this season, KINGS TEMPTATION gets a narrow vote over Sirobbie in this long-distance handicap chase. Superior jumping has proved the hallmark of the selection’s repertoire and he might prove hard to catch if getting into a rhythm.
