SuperSport United's Gavin Hunt will have to return to the proverbial drawing board once again and try to strike a winning formula as his team are yet to win a DStv Premiership game this year.
The veteran mentor thought his side had turned the corner in the DStv Premiership after the opening 45 minutes against Golden Arrows on Wednesday night where Ime Okon and Terrence Dzvukamanja grabbed the lead for the capital city side.
However, Steve Komphela’s half-time team-talk inspired Abafana Bes’thende to launch a fight back as they rescued a point in a two-all draw as Arrows continue to revive their league campaign.
Hunt is of the view that Matsatsantsa A Pitori would have collected maximum points if it were not for poor officiating.
The SuperSport mentor cut a frustrated figure at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium where he fingered the man in the middle and his team for making errors that cost United the game.
“The second goal was our throw-in. We kicked it against the guy (Arrows player), and we ran forward, and they took the ball and threw it and we were out of shape. It is very disappointing, but what can we do?” said Hunt.
“We scored a legitimate goal and they gave an offside when it was not offside, it’s just unfortunate. We had a penalty shout in the end. We should have won the game. We were playing well and there was no danger at all, they never looked like scoring,” he added.
SuperSport have now gone half-a-dozen DStv Premiership games without tasting victory. However, the three-time league champions collected most of their points in the opening half of the season and are still in a good position to compete for a place as Mamelodi Sundowns’ bridesmaid.
The Tshwane side also harbour hopes of finishing in the top three where they will qualify for the Caf Champions League or Caf Confederation Cup if they finish second or third.
“We are playing draws and we have not won but there is nothing we can do but to keep going,” Hunt explained.
SuperSport’s next match is a tie against top eight hopefuls TS Galaxy, who are enjoying a good run of form following successive wins against Durban-based outfits Royal AM and AmaZulu.
