Race 7

AGE OF SAIL has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third last time out over 2000M, 0.7L behind the winner, but he jumped awkwardly that day, bumping another runner and hung in down the home straight. He gets a handy draw two and looks to be the one that they all must beat.

He renews his rivalry with LOCO who has pulled gate six and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second in the same race over 2000M mentioned above, just a head back from the victor. He was bumped at the start and came four wide into the home straight in that event, but as he is 1kg worse off than the former at today’s weights, it may be difficult to confirm that result.

PERFECT PLAY is another who competed in the above race and is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last timeout, just under two lengths back from the winner. He raced wide without cover on that occasion, but still managed to make good late progress over the closing stages, suggesting that he could appreciate the extra ground on offer here. The gelding and a useful draw three and could complete the trifecta.

Race 8

KING OF THE CASTLE has consistent formlines to his credit and was disappointed for a run at the 200M mark when finishing third in his latest outing over 1400M, just over a half-length back from the winner, so he can be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding has a cosy draw four and should turn in another honest effort here.

TAMERLANE raced just behind the pace and then accelerated smartly when showing solid improvement to win his tenth career race last time out over 1400M by a neck. He jumps from gate six and will have non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, younger son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid his cause.

CHARTERHOUSE ran on strongly from some way back to finish fifth last time out over 1600M, two and a half lengths off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding has a wideish draw eight, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 9

CHORLTON LANE missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1400M when finishing seventh last time out over 1440M, 4.2L behind the winner, but he was slow away, overraced in the early stages and his jockey reported that he did not act in the going. He has a handy draw four and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways and is made the be best bet on the day’s card.

ELSON BOY had won six on the bounce before finishing second last time out over 1200M, 0.8L behind the victor. He struck the front at the 250M mark that day, but shifted in from the 200M pole and was run out of it late. Whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, on the plus side, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

WITH YOUR BLESSING raced three wide throughout and had to switch out at the 300M mark to get a clear run and was bumped at the 100M pole, becoming unbalanced, before finally ending up in third place last time out over 1200M, 2.3L back from the winner. From his useful draw three, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, ABLE WILLIE won over 1300M three runs back, finished ninth in his penultimate start over the same trip and then second in his latest outing over 1200M, beaten just a short-head. He finished strongly that day to just fail to catch the victor in the shadow of the post. The gelding has a cosy draw two and could provide jockey Nash Rawiller with his second winner in the day’s Jackpot should the top pick win the opener.

WILLAIDOW has cracked pole position and although recorded as finishing tenth in his latest outing over 1400M, he was just four lengths behind the winner. It should however be noted that he was slow away in that event, had to be checked off the heels of another runner at the 1300M mark when overracing and bumped another runner at the 400M pole, so he had plenty go wrong for him that day. He returns from a 14-week rest, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest to showcase his well-being.

UNION ARMY finished well from way back when ending up in sixth spot last time out over 1200M, just under five lengths adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 20 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and winning the latest. From draw eight, he should be included in all bets.
