Race 7

SPACE AGE has won two of his last three runs, the latest victory coming over 1600M, albeit by just a neck. He raced just behind the leaders that day before hitting the front at the 300M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He gets draw six and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

YASUKE is a 6-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she showed solid improvement to finish second last time out over 1400M, just a head behind the winner, notwithstanding jumping awkwardly. She then raced mid-field before delivering a powerful finish to just fail to snare the winner. The form of that race has been franked and she will be having her peak run after returning from a 38-week break. Jumping from a wide gate ten, she should be doing her best work late.

WEST OF AFRICA has also won two of his last three runs, the latest over 1550M by 1.8L, despite being crowded shortly after the start and coming three wide into the home straight. The gelding has pulled gate five and could chalk up a quick double.

Race 8

The day’s best bet, SCHWARZ followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a disappointing thirteenth place finish next time out over 1400M, just under eight lengths back from the winner and was immediately moved to a new yard. He has won a subsequent barrier trial and now has his first run for his new trainer. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here and the engaging of champion jockey James McDonald catches the eye.

SEMILLION has consistent formlines to his name and finished strongly from just behind the speed when ending up in second spot last time out over 1200M, 1.8L off the victor. He is not drawn much better in gate nine, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

SHEZANALISTER is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she won her penultimate start over 1100M and then finished fourth next time out over the same c&d, 2.8L behind the winner, but it should be noted that she jumped awkwardly on that occasion and was also reported to have not acted in the heavy going. She has her peak run after returning from a 19-week rest and from her handy draw two, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 9

ARAMCO is a five-time winner from ten starts, winning his latest outing over 1800M by a half-length by kicking clear of the field at the 350M pole and although shifting outwards from the 200M mark, he held on courageously. The gelding has his peak run for his new trainer after returning from a 17-week rest and although drawn wide in gate two, he will be seeking his sixth career victory.

GOLDEN PATH goes for his hat-trick after two wins over 2000M, the latest by putting three and a half lengths between himself and the opposition and has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial. From his useful draw four, the trio is very much on the cards.

GALERON is seldom too far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1600M, just a neck back from the winner. He was slow away that day and forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight. The gelding has an even better draw two and should be included in all bets.

Race 10

WILLAIDOW was returning from a 14-week break when showing plenty of toe before being run out of it late to finish second in his latest start over 1200M, 1.3L behind the winner. He faces a wide draw eleven, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas to give jockey James McDonald his second winner in the day’s Jackpot.

IRON MAN has his hat-trick run after wins over 1250M and 1200M last time out by 1.3L, despite racing three wide throughout. He on the other hand has a cozy draw four and should be right up there when they hit the line.

WORLD ALLIANCE missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1100M and 1000M when finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, 3.8L behind the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 350M mark before finishing off his race well. With better luck in running, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.
