TOP BET
Race 1: RINGS AND THINGS(9)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

The Favola c & d formline is well-represented in this opening contest and the runner-up of that event, RINGS AND THINGS could take all the beating. She stayed on strongly behind the highly rated victress that day and had another smart type in the form of Dynasty’s Blossom behind her on that occasion. The Bass-Robinson inmate was almost two lengths ahead of her stablemate HOPEFUL that day and she would have gained plenty from that first venture around the bend.

Race 2: CAPTAIN RAM(1)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The well-bred CAPTAIN RAM made steady progress for 4th on his fair debut over this c & d last month and he should build on that performance. He was fancied in the betting market that day, indicating that he has shown decent work back home.

Race 3: EMERALD GAL(1)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Darryl HODGSON

The lack of pace could be a serious issue in this six furlong sprint but that could hand the initiative to the consistent performing EMERALD GAL who has speed and can turn it on. The costly to follow imported filly has a great c & d record but she only finished a neck in front of the debutante SAMSARA over this track & trip last time out and of course the latter has all the scope for progress.

Race 7: QUICKFIRE(1)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Geln KOTZEN

QUICKFIRE is above-average and the three-year old gelding stayed on for a decent 5th over this c & d in a competitive line recently. That was his first experience around the turn and the son of Querari would have come on further from that. He is well drawn at gate 2 and certainly has huge scope for improvement.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: WESTERN STORM(7)

Jockey: Piet BOTHA – Trainer: Geln PULLER

WESTERN STORM didn’t disgrace himself in some efforts over further but is ultimately at his best when sprinting and could bounce right back to form here. The Var gelding continues to drop significantly in the merit ratings and he rates a serious in this line-up. The four-year old is his jockey’s only ride on the day.
