KENNA made the expected improvement when she ran on for 2nd despite racing wide in her second outing. That was her first venture around the turn on a tight track and the above-average daughter of Horse Chestnut clearly has more scope for progress. Of course she had an eye-catching debut on this course over five furlongs in a feature prior to that and could take some beating in this line-up, filled mostly with newcomers.
Race 2: WARRIOR’S REST(9)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY
WARRIOR’S REST is highly regarded by his top stable as he was taken to the Cape for a summer stint that probably didn’t go according to plan but the bay colt did show ability. He certainly wasn’t disgraced in a minor feature in a big field over six furlongs second time out and would have strength- ened during the 11 week absence. The son of What A Winter should love every bit of this extra distance and he could make serious improvement on his Highveld debut. He has gate speed to overcome his wide draw.
Race 4: SASSI MODEL(5)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER
SASSI MODEL is improving steadily and she appears ready to produce the run of her career today. The chestnut filly did make late progress in a competitive line-up over ten furlongs recently and she definitely has more to offer. The daughter of Brave Tin Soldier could still enjoy dropping to the mile on her peak showing and she faces a very moderate field.
Race 5: WAZEER(10)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY
WAZEER showed some improvement second time out but perhaps found the ten furlongs too far for her that day. She finished just over three lengths behind the consistent but long-time maiden PRADA PRINCESS that day. However, the Tarry inmate has much more scope for improvement and this slightly shorter trip will suit her better. She could enjoy being equipped with blinkers.

A rather intriguing final event for fillies and mares where a suicidal gallop is expected which is sure to suit those runners who finish well. The veteran bay mare CATCH A THIEF needed her comeback run and she is a prime candidate who loves a solid tempo. She often runs on late and had some useful form prior to the eleven week absence. She has a decent draw and is a major threat with ‘Striker’ in the saddle.
