Dolphins hoping to continue winning MODC start

Andile Phehlukwayo - Batting for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins

Following two good wins to get their tournament underway, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins will hope to continue that winning Momentum One Day Cup form when they meet the WSB Cape Cobras in Paarl on Friday afternoon.

Wins against the bizhub Highveld Lions in Pietermaritzburg and the Multiply Titans at SuperSport Park sees the Durban side occupying the top spot on the log early in the competition. Coach Grant Morgan is impressed with how his side has started.

“We had to have some honest chats after the four day competition and do some introspection which I think we have done,” he said.

“There is still a fair way to go in the campaign and we haven’t hit our A game yet, but hopefully when that comes together we will find ourselves in a good position.

“Having the likes of our internationals for this first bit, Dane (Vilas) back in the side, Robbie (Frylinck) who has been overseas playing, it’s a great mix that we have in the side.”

The Dolphins have managed to score over 300 in both of their outings so far in the competition with a number of the batsmen contributing. In their win over the Titans it was Andile Phehlukwayo who made a significant contribution, 69 off 61 balls.

Having come off a strong campaign with the national side against Pakistan, Phehlukwayo is glad to be contributing to the Dolphins.

“I have been working really hard off the field and I want to keep that consistency and momentum in my performance going forward.

“I have felt that I have underperformed with the bat over the past few seasons which is probably due to a lack of discipline and shot selection.

“The potential has always been there and I think the more domestic and international games that I play plus the people that I surround myself with will help me grow quicker,” Phehlukwayo said.

A trip to Paarl is never an easy task and Morgan knows that, however in recent times the Dolphins have done well in the winelands town, but Morgan knows that the Cobras will also pose a significant threat.

“They’ve got good players across their side,” he said. “Good opening partnerships, both bowling and batting.

“They have a good young middle order who can handle pressure but most importantly they seem to be a happy team.

“They are a proud team and they stick together so we are going to have to be at our best.”

Talking about playing at Boland Park, Morgan believes you have to work hard for your runs.

“You can get a lot of boundaries in Paarl but more often than not you have to run hard and do the small things well, that’s where you can make the difference.”

Unfortunately for the Dolphins they will be without the services of the experienced Rob Frylinck who picked up an injury in the win over the Titans. Kerwin Mungroo has joined up with Hollywoodbets KZN Inland for their clash with Western Province.

The pair have been replaced in the squad by Eathan Bosch and Calvin Savage.
