David Warner has stepped down as captain of the SunRisers Hyderabad after the ball tampering incident that took place at Newlands.
In light of the ball tampering scandal that involved members of the Australian cricket team ‘leadership group’ David Warner (vice-captain), Steve Smith (captain), and Cameron Bancroft.
Warner has elected not to captain the SunRisers Hyderabad IPL team ahead of this year’s multimillion-dollar competition.
SunRisers Hyderabad sent a tweet expressing the sentiments felt by the SunRisers CEO, K.Shanmugam:
Sponsor Pulls the Plug
Also, LG Electronics Inc. have pulled the plug on David Warner’s sponsorship after electing not to renew his contract that was coming to a close. Warner has been an ambassador for the brand since 2014.
LG stated the below in a statement to Fairfax media
“LG’s current sponsorship of David Warner is in the final weeks, and in light of recent events, we have decided not to renew our partnership.
“LG Australia will always look to work with ambassadors that share our core brand values and we take these relationships incredibly seriously to ensure we put our customers, employees and stakeholders first.”
