Dolphins firmly on top in PMB

Sarel Erwee of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins plays a shot against the Imperial Lions.

Pietermaritzburg – Another strong day from the Hollywoodbets Dolphins has seen them strengthen their grip on their 4-Day Domestic Series match with the Imperial Lions at the Pietermaritzburg Oval after day two on Tuesday.

Starting the day on 231 for two after they won the toss, opener Sarel Erwee was just eleven runs short of a well-deserved century.

The day began well for the Dolphins as Erwee went to his sixth first class century and continued to cash in as he and Vaughn van Jaarsveld dominated the early part of the days play.

Eighty runs after the pair came together Van Jaarsveld fell three runs short of a half century when he was caught. Him and Erwee had moved the Dolphins past 300 at that stage.

The Dolphins then lost Cody Chetty for a duck and then Erwee was dislodged for 136 off 330 deliveries with seventeen fours in his knock that lasted 433 minutes.

Senuran Muthusamy scored 21 and Prenelan Subrayen and Daryn Dupavillon chipped in with thirteen apiece as the Dolphins were eventually bowled out for 381.

The Dolphins started as well as possible with the ball as the dangerous Dominic Hendricks for a duck off just two balls when Daryn Dupavillon bowled him.

Andile Phehlukwayo picked up the wicket of Joshua Richards before Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks tried to stem the loss of early wickets.

Bavuma was dismissed by Subrayen and Wihan Lubbe followed soon after before the Lions then lost four wickets for twenty runs to languish at 100 for seven.

Reeza Hendricks was holding the fort however his vigil came to an end when he was caught off the bowling of Senuran Muthusamy for 49.

The Lions finished the day on 122 for eight, still trailing the Dolphins by 259 runs.
