Weather curtails action at the Oval

Gloomy weather and drizzle put an early end to play on Day Two of the Sunfoil Series clash between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the bizhub Highveld Lions at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first the visitors resumed on their overnight total of 202/5, with Rassie van der Dussen and Wiaan Mulder advancing that total to 250 before van der Dussen was beautifully caught down the leg side by keeper Dane Vilas off the bowling of Calvin Savage.

Two runs later Savage struck again, sending Mangaliso Mosehle back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Mulder and Bjorn Fortuin nursed the Lions total to 277/7 before the poor light and the approaching drizzle forced the players off the field and into an early lunch.

The rain and gloomy light persisted throughout the afternoon, eventually prompting the umpires to call off play for the day.

The Sunfoil Series clash continues on Sunday at the Pietermaritzburg Oval and entry for spectators is free.
