Following a delayed start to day three of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series match between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the VKB Knights at the Pietermaritzburg Oval, the hosts had the visitors 174 for six at the close of play on the third day.

Day two was completely lost to the elements so the Dolphins started day three on 330 for six with Senuran Muthusamy eyeing his first century of the season, however he could only add eight runs to his overnight score before he was caught for 89.

The Dolphins then declared their innings closed at the fall of the Muthusamy wicket with the total on 354 for seven. Eathan Bosch was the not out batsman on 22.

It was the ideal start with the ball from the hosts as they tore the heart out of the Knights top order with Bosch picking up three quick wickets and leaving the Bloemfontein side 22 for three.

There was a 23 run partnership between Grant Mokoena and Rudi Second before the former was bowled by Kerwin Mungroo for 27 – the Knights were 45 for four.

Spinner Senuran Muthusamy then joined in on the act when he had Andries Gous caught by SJ Erwee for 27.

With the Knights on 102 they lost their sixth wicket courtesy of Bosch. Patrick Kruger was also caught by Erwee off the seamer’s bowling.

Second and Shadley van Schalkwyk came together to revive their innings and the pair put on 72 before bad light forced the players from the field.

Second was 54 not out and Van Schalkwyk was 35 not out and the Knights had recovered to 174 for six. They still trail the Dolphins by 180 runs.

Bosch was comfortably the most successful bowler for the Dolphins with four for 62 while Mungroo bagged one for 22 and Muthusamy finished the day one for 38.
