CSA 4-DAY SERIES: Hollywoodbets Dolphins start well against Western Province

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins made a strong start to their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series as they finished day one on 43 without loss after bowling WSB Western Province out on day one of their clash at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Wednesday.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins made a strong start to their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series as they finished day one on 43 without loss after bowling WSB Western Province out on day one of their clash at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Wednesday.

The Dolphins struck early when Daryn Dupavillon had Eddie Moore caught behind for five in the fourth over of the day.

After some more sustained pressure from the opening bowlers, Okhule Cele picked up the second wicket when he clean-bowled Mohammed Vallie for one which saw the visitors 16 for two in the first hour of play.

Jonathan Bird and Daniel Smith put together a dangerous-looking partnership of 31 for the third wicket before Andile Simelane picked up his first wicket. Bird was bowled attempting to leave a delivery for 20.

The Dolphins had their fourth wicket when debutant Romashan Pillay picked up the wicket of Valintine Kitime for three. He was well caught behind the wicket by wicket-keeper Tshepang Dithole with the score on 69.

Smith went to his half-century just before lunch from 78 balls with eleven fours.

At the lunch break, Western Province had moved to 94 for four and the Dolphins would have been happy with their efforts in the first session.

The Dolphins were made to work hard after the lunch break. They finally got their break-through when Daniel Smith, who looked certain to get a hundred, chopped a Pillay delivery on for 92.

At the loss of the Smith wicket Province were 149 for five.

Sean Whitehead picked up his first wicket for the Dolphins when he bowled Mihali Mpongwana for one. The Dolphins began to take control with the visitors 158 for six.

At the tea break the Western Province batters George Linde and Kyle Simmonds had taken their total to 180 for six.

The Dolphins then picked up two quick wickets when Prenelan Subrayen got his first wicket and Dupavillon bagged his second.

Linde was caught by captain SJ Erwee for 34 off the bowling of Subrayen before Dupavillon dismissed Kyle Simmonds caught and bowled.

Ten runs later and the Dolphins had their ninth wicket when Beuran Hendricks was caught off the bowling of Subrayen.

The tenth wicket partnership was worth 20 runs before Wesley Bedja became Subrayen’s third wicket as the Dolphins bowled Western Province out for 212.

The Dolphins rounded out a good day at the office when they navigated their way to stumps without losing a wicket.

Erwee finished 25 not out and Dithole was unbeaten on 15 as they finished on 43 without loss, trailing by 169 runs.
