The Hollywoodbets Dolphins registered their first win of the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series when they thumped the Knights by an innings and 16 runs in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins registered their first win of the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series when they thumped the Knights by an innings and 16 runs in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The Dolphins needed nine wickets on the final day and the Knights required 157 runs to make the Dolphins bat again. It was another good day for the Dolphins, who had combined strong 4-Day batting with patient, skilful 4-Day bowling throughout the match, and they managed to bowl the Knights out for 239 in their second innings.

Starting the day on 98 for one, the Dolphins picked up wickets regularly throughout to keep themselves in line to win by that innings margin. Dolphins’ seamer Daryn Dupavillon and spinner Prenelan Subrayen ripped through the Knights middle-order and Subrayen continued his fine form with another five wicket haul.

Subrayen got the first wicket of the day when Gihahn Cloete was well stumped by Dithole for five. The off-spinner then backed that wicket up with Patrick Botha’s scalp before Dupavillon got back in the mix.

He dismissed first innings centurion Lesego Senokwane for 61. Aubrey Swanepoel followed quickly after that, caught behind off Dupavillon’s bowling. At the loss of the fifth wicket the Knights were on 133.

The Knights lower order provided a fair amount of resistance, however the Dolphins had too many runs to play with and despite the final five wickets adding 106 runs they were still 16 runs short of making the Dolphins bat again. Subrayen picked up three of the final five wickets to fall while Okuhle Cele and Andile Simelane chipped in with a wicket each.

The Dolphins registered a number of milestones throughout the match with Slade van Staden scoring his maiden first-class century, Romashan Pillay making his career-best first-class score. Daryn Dupavillon took his 250th first-class wicket during the match as the Dolphins got themselves a crucial win in the context of the competition.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins will face Goldrush Boland at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in their next match from 19-22 December.
