Durban Super Giants v MI Cape Town

Kingsmead

In recent times the side batting first at Kingsmead has had the edge. As was the case on both Tuesday and Friday last week it was the side that won the toss who batted first and went on to win. That has been the case in 47.4% of the recent T20 games at the venue, with 10.5% of games ending with no result and 42.1% going the way of the side batting second.

The Kingsmead pitch is a useful one for the Spinners and DSG have plenty of quality in this area. So too though do MICT. It will make for an intriguing battle to see the masterful Rashid Khan up against his protege Noor Ahmad.

Durban Super Giants

Things appear to have fallen apart for DSG with their performance against the Sunrisers on Sunday best described as woeful. Kane Williamson aside, the only other DSG batsman to reach double figures was Naveen-ul-Haq, who smashed 30 at the end of the innings.

Super Giants aiming for much-needed win

Momentum is such a critical thing in SA20 where there is very little time between games. Following back-to-back defeats this past weekend DSG are now bottom of the table. They head into Tuesday’s encounter against MI Cape Town on the back of a run of three losses.

The experiment of batting Quinton de Kock in the middle order doesn’t appear to be working. In times of trouble, it is always best to fall back on what you know. DSG need runs and QDK knows how to deliver them from the top of the order. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him there on Tuesday.

DSG set to unleash Heinrich Klaasen

Heinrich Klaasen missed Sunday’s clash against SEC. He should be back for the visit of MICT, and he will be desperate to get some proper runs behind his name. He has been very quiet in SA20 2025 with just 38 runs to date.

Brandon King, who has scored just 17 runs thus far, is another batsman who will be eager to post a score. He won’t find it easy against the MICT attack which is probably the most balanced one in the tournament.

MI Cape Town

Last season’s leading run scorer in SA20 Ryan Rickelton was back to full health and his best form. He smashed a sensational 89 runs from 39 balls against JSK on Saturday. He knows his way around SA20, and he is looking sublimely confident. It is bad news for DSG.

MICT equipped with dangerous batting attack

It’s not just Rickelton who is looking good with bat in hand, his opening partner Rassie van der Dussen was in sparkling form too on Saturday until he was run out. Reeza Hendricks is also in good touch and Delano Potgieter has gone out once all tournament – he’s currently averaging 101 runs.

The MICT bowling attack is probably the most balanced in the tournament. With the genuine quality of Trent Boult opening alongside Azmatullah Omarzai, they follow it up with Kagiso Rabada and then the spin threats of George Linde and Rashid Khan. Reeza Hendricks even turned his arm on Saturday as he claimed a couple of wickets.

Delano Potgieter had an outstanding opening game to the tournament. While he hasn’t quite lived up to the standards of the opening win over SEC, he is still averaging 101 runs per innings (aided by a handful of not out knocks) at a strike rate of 175. Along with George Linde he has been a crucial presence in the MI Cape Town middle order.

Depth the name of the game

MI Cape Town is laden with all-rounders which makes the job of captain Rashid Khan so much easier. He has so many options to turn to in the field and so much depth in the batting department. It’s no wonder that the side from Cape Town are finally playing with confidence and belief. It feels like they know they have what it takes to go all the way.

Verdict: MI Cape Town

They are playing with such confidence now, all their stars are firing, and their squad players are stepping up. They should be able to capitalize on DSG’s wobbly recent performances.
