The St George’s Park pitch doesn’t tend to favour sides batting first or second – results are even. The wicket offers something for everyone – batsmen and bowlers, quicks and spinners. This is a venue where everyone stands a chance.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The Sunrisers had a disastrous start to SA20 2025 but the past weekend it all turned around as they secured back-to-back wins over the Durban Super Giants. Momentum is key and SEC suddenly have it on their side.

Talismanic Jansen leading the way

Marco Jansen has been the shining light for SEC all competition. He has been taking wickets, and he is batting well – he’s even moved up the order ahead of Tristan Stubbs such has been his success. Jansen is the ninth-highest run-scorer this season and he is fifth on the wicket-takers list as well.

In 2024 it was the performance of their bowling unit that was the cornerstone of SEC’s success. Things are finally starting to work for Aiden Markram’s side with Richard Gleeson now the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. With Ottneil Baartman and Liam Dawson now also getting into the wickets, SEC suddenly have four of the tournament’s top 10 bowlers.

David Bedingham has struggled for runs at the top of the order, but he finally came right against DSG on Sunday. While it was a low-pressure innings given that SEC were only chasing 116 to win, he nevertheless hit a brisk 39 from 20 balls and looked good doing it.

Sunrisers struggling to set solid batting foundation

One of the big problems for SEC has been their inability to get any sort of solid opening stand. Zak Crawley made 38 on Friday when Bedingham failed and then on Sunday, it was Crawley’s turn to fail as Bedingham made runs. It’s a combination that isn’t working and which, frankly, doesn’t inspire confidence.

Pretoria Capitals

It’s been a tough tournament for the Capitals thus far – they have managed just a single win, although two of their games have been ended with no result because of rain. They head into Wednesday’s game second from bottom on the table, desperately looking for a second win.

Titans’ seamer Matthew Boast and North West quick Gideon Peters have been added to the Pretoria Capitals’ squad for the remainder of the 2025 SA20. Boast and Peters have replaced fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Daryn Dupavillon, who have been sidelined by injury.

Capitals aiming to maintain batting heroics

Pretoria Capitals are a good team and on Saturday they set a score of 212 runs against Paarl Royals. In a game in which runs flowed the Royals saw solid contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Will Smeed and Kyle Verreynne. They are looking solid with the bat and have three batsmen in the top ten leading scorers.

Skipper Rilee Rossouw has not delivered as he would have wanted to and is due a big score. He has 28 runs from four innings thus far. He comes in later in the innings when it’s throw-caution-to-the-wind time, but so far, it hasn’t come off for him.

Englishman Will Smeed played his first game of the tournament on Saturday and looked good. Expect more from him in the games to come.

Verdict: Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Playing at home and with momentum in their side. things are starting to look better for Aiden Markram’s side.
