While it wasn’t the worst outcome for MI Cape Town, it was a disaster for Keshav Maharaj’s Durban outfit as they have now gone five games without a win – three losses and two no results.

Durban are anchored firmly to the bottom of the table with eight points from six games and a lot of work to do if they hope to advance to the business end of the tournament. Cape Town stay second, level on points with Paarl but with fewer wins.

The Super Giants won the toss and elected to field first, and while it was a blistering start for Cape Town, with Ryan Rickelton blazing his way to 18 from nine balls, he was out off the last ball of the fourth over.

Rassie van der Dussen anchored the visiting teams’ innings as he posted an undefeated score of 35 from 32 balls. in doing so he passed Rickelton to become MI Cape Towns’ leading all-time scorer with 799 runs.

Reeza Hendricks’ stay was short and Colin Ingram managed just a single before he became the third wicket to fall. But just as skipper Rashid Khan joined Van der Dussen in the middle the rain came – and sadly, it never left.

After a wait of over two hours, the umpires eventually called the game off.

DSG return to action again on Thursday when they host tournament leaders Paarl Royals at Kingsmead, while MICT’s next outing is the return fixture against DSG at Newlands on Saturday.
