Frylinck & Muthusamy heroics guide Dolphins to MODC final

It was a tough start with the bat for the Dolphins after Cobras opening bowler Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets in the first over of the chase before they slumped to 58 for five in the eighteenth over.

Grant Roelofsen had 34 before he was bowled by a ball that turned sharply from Imran Manack but it was then left to Muthusamy and Frylinck to get the Dolphins close.

Their partnership lasted 22 overs with both players passing the half century mark.

Frylinck’s 62 came from 87 balls and included five fours while Muthusamy’s 57 was more subdued coming from 105 balls with five boundaries.

It was the job of Eathan Bosch to come in at number nine and put the game to bed with two boundaries off Aviwe Mgijima before captain Prenelan Subrayen finished it off with a boundary.

The Dolphins showed patience with the ball in hand and found their areas early on in the Cobras innings that was thwarted as soon as it looked to be gaining momentum.

Tony de Zorzi was the mainstay for the Capetonians as he scored 61, however he continued to fight a lone battle with wickets falling around him regularly.

Subrayen accounted for Pieter Malan early when he played one on whilst on the sweep before Jason Smith and De Zorzi set about given the Cobras a solid platform.

A stand of 81 took them to 83 before Smith was well caught by Subrayen off the bowling of Ottniel Baartman for 37 and from there the Dolphins put the squeeze on and prevented the Cobras from gaining any sort of ascendency.

The Cobras then lost eight wickets for 113 runs to be bowled out for 196 inside 47 overs.

Baartman was the pick of the bowlers for the Dolphins with three for 15 in five overs while Robbie Frylinck picked up a brace of wickets along with spinners Subrayen and Senuran Muthusamy who both picked up a pair of sticks.

The second semi-final will feature the Imperial Lions and the VKB Knights on Tuesday for a spot in the final against the Dolphins on Friday.
