Inland hold on in Paarl

Gareth Duke of Hollywoodbets KZN Inland

Pietermaritzburg – Hollywoodbets KZN Inland had to show some dogged determination to hold out for a draw in their CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup clash with Boland at Eurolux Boland Park in Paarl last week.

It was a dominant display with the bat in the first innings from the home side who managed to put together 417 for seven declared in just over 121 overs.

Isma-eel Gafieldien and Ruan Terblanche both registered big hundreds with the former making 136 while Terblanche top scored with 142. Their partnership was worth 216 as the home side put Inland under massive pressure.

Gareth Dukes was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three of the seven wickets to fall for 49 runs in seventeen overs.

With a mountain to climb in their first innings, the Hollywoodbets KZN Inland side were bundled out for 165.

Newcomer to the union Cameron Sheckleton stood firm with 64 runs, however there was very little support for him and the Boland side tried to hammer home their advantage as they enforced the follow-on with Inland still 252 runs behind.

The second innings from the men from Pietermaritzburg showed more determination as they needed to bat time in order to save the game.

Once against Sheckleton batted well at the top of the order. He managed to face over 100 balls in his 47 runs while fellow opener Caleb Pillay also faced a century of deliveries as the visitors looked to bat for as long as possible.

Captain Luke Schlemmer chimed in with 64 runs, however the saviour of the innings for Inland was Kushen Kishun.

Batting at number five, the right-hander scored 85 off 245 deliveries in a knock that saw Inland eventually go past Boland’s first innings score.

Gareth Dukes added 46 to the Inland cause eight and Kurtlyn Mannikam was 14 not out when the game was called a draw.

Inland had batted for 123 overs and scored 328 for eight to save the game.

Unfortunately for both sides their fifty over game scheduled for Sunday was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to weather.
