Bavuma, who sustained the injury in the second match of the recent ODI series against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, will travel with the squad to Bangladesh hoping to be fit for the second and final Test in Chattogram from 29 October.

Aiden Markram will skipper the Proteas in Bavuma’s absence while Titans batter Dewald Brevis has been added to the squad as batting cover.

The Proteas also have an injury concern for opener Tony de Zorzi who injured his knee on tour in the UAE, with Ryan Rickelton and Matthew Breetzke already in the squad as spare batters.

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been named as a replacement for Nandre Burger, who will miss the tour due to a lumbar stress fracture.

The Proteas squad will convene for a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 12 – 14 October before flying out to Bangladesh.
