Three teams stand a realistic chance of disturbing Australia and South Africa.

The upcoming series between South Africa and Australia Downunder is set to play a huge part in determining the fate of the World Test Championship for sure.

Sri Lanka are currently in third but with just one series away from home in New Zealand left for them to play it seems unlikely that they will be able to inch their way into contention.

The strongest candidate for knocking one of the long-established top two of their perch will be India.

India have an away Test series in Bangladesh and a home series against Australia still to play.

While Australia sport a big lead at the top they also have the most series left to play as they first face West Indies and South Africa at home before travelling to India next year.

Pakistan have two home series left to got to complete their schedule but they are very difficult series against the two sides that contested the last World Test Championship final.

South Africa will want to get something out of their series in Australia having had a very good record against the old enemy on their own patch in recent history.

The Proteas are in the more precarious position of the top two sides but also have a home series against the West Indies to round off their WTC programme.

December will be a huge month for the WTC with no fewer than ten Test matches counting towards the standings concluding during the month.

It’s highly likely that the final places could even be settled by the time the year is done.

The second World Test Championship final will be contested at the Oval in London in June with six days of play possible if needed to get a result.
