The Scots threatened a great performance but were plagued by the consistent loss of wickets while batting and the inability to slow down Australia’s march.

That opening match was the first time Australia played Scotland in a T20I at the Grange and they now have a 100% record at the ground and should build on that as this series goes on.

Scotland

Scotland had threatened to launch through George Munsey, who got hold of a few early on before his departure caused a mini-collapse for the home team in the first match of the series.

Sadly Munsey was the only top order batter who took an attacking approach to taking on Australia and in the end Scotland were well beaten to start the hostilities.

Brandon McMullen got an early scalp but the Scottish seamers could find no answer to the positive approach displayed by Australia’s batters.

Experienced spinner Mark Watt was the Scottish bowler that Australia found toughest to get away and the hosts should learn their lesson from that.

Australia

Travis Head blasted Scotland right out of the water with his innings and he showed just how dangerous he can be when his attacking approach comes off early.

Mitchell Marsh ensured that even the loss of an early wicket didn’t really slow Australia down much at all and that led to Scotland’s modest total being quickly hauled in.

Bustling quick Xavier Bartlett was impressive in the first outing against Scotland, finding ways to trouble the batters with variations in length and bounce.

Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott pose the big wicket threat for Australia with others allowed to try to simply cut off the flow of runs.

Verdict: Australia

Australia should have this one comfortably in hand.
